DNS
I have a 2000 Odyssey that developed rust on the rear passenger quarter panel about 1 year ago. The rust started in the seam in the panel. I believe it is caused by the rear air-conditioning unit. There must be a build-up of the condensation, which is causing the rust. Honda engineers must not have made sufficient allowances for the water to drain from the area of the unit. I showed the Dealer the problem, and it is not covered by the warranty. Has anyone else experienced the same problem?
Ben.
Somehow I'm thinking that if there's condensation building up it's not the air conditioning. Unless Honda engineers have found a way to spin a pulley on a compressor mounted anywhere other than under the hood then .. I can't see it being the issue. Maybe it's a ducting issue, or something. CRG7
Moisture gets caught up in the wheel well liners, which is a common cause of Honda rust. At 8-9 years, it's average for the rust to start coming through on a Honda. If it's not that much, you can have it patched with some metal before it spreads more. If it's a good amount, you'll need a new quarter.
Ben.
Didn't think it was the A/C.. lolol.
CRG7
Didn't think it was the A/C.. lolol. lol, it's hard to tell, since the "seam" in the panel could mean different areas to different people. it seems odd to me that it would be the a/c, when we all know that Hondas rust over time. DNS
I mis-stated the point about the AC unit, although I know it is not a full-blown unit, there is some type of AC component back there, because when the Van stops after running with the AC on, moisture drips from behind the rear wheel, similar to what comes from the engine compartment. In the interior opposite from exterior panel, there is a large vent for heating & cooling.
