mpearce1974
Wierd thing this morning when I filled my tank! I went in and pre-paid (dont get me started on that PITA)gave the guy $20.00 and thought it would be about $16.00 to fill up! Well I had gone 161 miles, and I average 39-40MPG so should have taken like 4.25 gallon of gas to fill it! So went out started filling tank, and it shuts off at just under 3 gallons! I am like yeah I wish!! Then I fill it all the rest of the way up, and it only takes 3.25 gallons of gas! So thats 49.5 MPG from 40ish?? Only thing I did was start using Shell instead of Chevron, which Shell's lowest Octane rating is 90, where as Chevron is 87 Octane! Octane level effects mileage very little so WTF? I say there is a gas fairy! Also Chevron filters their gas for water 2 times, and I dont think Shell does, but that would make Shell worse mileage wise I would think! Any thoughts, and have you seen the gas fairy?

mpearce1974
I will never understand how you could care/read this much into MPG lol. DUDE! I drive 400 miles a week, and get paid for 350ish of that! That and one day you too will have a family, and a mortgage!

I'm in the same boat (except I get .485 per mile) with a mortgage and a family. Every mpg counts as more money in your pocket and every penny makes a difference (to me at least). I get 33mpg on average out of my GSR which is good considering the sticker rated it at 29 hwy. I'd love to be able to get 40+ and 49.5 is insane.....hopefully it lasts. Kastigir
I would think it's an anomaly. You need to measure over time to get an accurate reading. I wouldn't read too much into it. I think you'll find you'll be closer to 40, than 50 over time.

My driving habits never change (thats why I average 39-40 every tank) the area I drive in never changed, the temperature has been constant, and I always fill up @ like 150ish! Just trying to find a legitimate reason for increase. As much as I drive you would think it would have happened before now? Such a drastic increase was unexpected, just from a change of gas stations! Actually I was kinda pissed believe it or not! I am trying out a new product for a Amsoil distributer, and of course on the tank when I am going to use it, my mileage spikes! My fault for changing routine, but we will see what happens! I was thinking maybe some one or something sneaked into my garage and added gas to my car! Joe W
I must have a personal gas fairy cause I'm consistently getting 48mpg from my dx. And my hf with low comp still got 42mpg on the trip home after purchase.

mpearce1974
Correct me if I'm wrong, but you fill up after 150 miles? Typically between 150-200 usually 2 X's a week, up until this last time, same gas station, same level, same time of day (early morning) always fill on first click, always drive same routes, and same speeds! Also I never let gas go below 1\2 tank unless running additives!
