Exhaust leak/manifold questions...

Ok so I''m new to HondaForums and on top of that I have a really weird question, recently my Father in laws' exhaust manifold cracked on his 98 civic, (as all cast iron ones do) as such the crack manifold started to make farting noises while the engine was under accelleration, Since I know a little about Honda''s I knew all I needed was a d16 (non-vtec & SOHC) manifold from pick-n-pull.

I got it, replaced it, put a new head to manifold gasket on their, and torqued it,,,,, and now here is the question, on the manifold to downpipe area, where they come together, where the heck do I put the new donut gaskets???

Do they require replacing? Am I supposed to chisel them outta there? More importantly WHERE THE HECK ARE THEY!?!?!? I dont even see the normal type donut gaskets that go in-between other cars'' manifold to down-pipe areas...

Any info would be great, as the only Haynes manual I have is for the 92-95 civic, also d16 series but makes no mention of needing to swap out new gaskets, so I have no reference here, not to mention GOOGLING does nothing but return aftermarket results....

Anyhoo I''d appreciate it guys...

regards, AaAB...

Wow, no responses yet, I thought this would be a simple question, exhaust manifold to pre-cat piping, does it use donut gaskets/flange gaskets???

yes or no???

Where are they and how do I take em out, don't tell me to search cause I have, don't tell me to go aftermarket, cause HE is an old guy, and HE won't...

I refuse to believe I am the only person with this question....

Any info would help, don't just look at it and leave no reply =(

regards, AaAB...

Is what you're looking for on here?

Visit My Website

Yeahh thats it, number 10 on the diagram to the right is the parts in question, I have looked down the pre-cat piping and the only way to change these (well at least by the looks of it) is to forcefully pull em out with a screw driver, my question is, is this the correct way to go about it????

At least based on the pic you know that they are interchangeable...

BTW thanks for the response, I was starting to think that everyone here just has no input except on underbody neon light assemblies or turbos they heard will make their pecker bigger!!!

thanks again wannaB,,, not that I'm calling you a wanna-be..... confusing I know.... =(

Okay first off some of us are busy and lead everyday lives, 2nd off good luck finding anything about underbody neons on this site. Your getting into a territory that bondoboy and 50postfanatic and phillythefktard are in right now. show a little fu(kin respect for the forums, and maybe we will show some to you.

now with that said

use a screwdriver, or a scribe to get it out, its not a big deal if you put a tiny little scratch in it, its exhaust piping not your damn cams or another precision piece.

Thanks all, I figured it out, it was just too covered in carbon deposits that I couldn't see, that and I was too lazy to be bothered with working on my father-in-laws' civic that day, YOU KNOW BECAUSE I DON'T LEAD A DAILY LIFE MYSELF, SO THERE'S NO WAY IN HECK I COULD POSSIBLY UNDERSTAND THAT WHAT WITH .NET, VISUAL C# PROGRAMMING, AND CAR TUNING BEING MY HOBBIES, PASSIONS, AND LIVELY HOOD NO LESS...

It's funny how emotions can get to young people, but I will say this I too despise the term "RICER" its both stereotypical and a bit racist... But in no way was I actually calling anyone here a "RICER", you guys just like under-powered cars that's all... I'M KIDDING, KIDDING, JEEZ NO MORE FLAMES cmgogo I LIKE A DEL-SOL AS MUCH AS THE NEXT GUY... Furthermore don't you think it's a bit immature for someone to get so worked up because someone said something about a given subject that they did not agree with, LIVE WITH IT, it will happen through out all of our lives and there is nothing you can do about it, GETTING MAD WILL ONLY MAKE YOUR LIFE SHORTER, so relax man, take a drive in the DEL-SOL, those cars are becoming a dying breed anyway so PIMP that sucker like it were a caterham super 7...

BTW mpearce1974 that's a really clean engine compartment, what process do you use to clean her off? I usually get the really stuck on stuff (thick caked on grease) with brake cleaner $2.50-autozone, I also use a mixture of engine cleaner and the car washs engine cleaner, pretty much it makes any car look as good as your civic in your sig. So whats your process??? Oh yeahh look at your strut tower, it's more BLUE than the body, nice!!!

Oh and I am a service manager of 6 carwashes, and while we have nice chemicals, they wont touch what I use, and my shiot is safe on paint!
