Clutch issues?

Ok first off I'm not too mechanically inclined, so sorry if what i say rises a lot of questions or doesn't make complete sense but I'll do my best. I bought a 1988 Prelude Type S 5-Speed today. I test drove it, and it was fine. So i paid for the car, drove it home, and it seemed to be ok. Once I hit the freeway I noticed when in fifth gear, the car seemed to be reaching pretty high RPM's still (between 3 and 3.5k) and revving really loud. I've owned a stick before and it didn't sound like that. Once off the freeway and almost home, I was having a pretty hard time getting it to go in first gear from a dead stop, applying more gas didn't seem to do anything. Then when in my apartment complex, it was doing the same thing, I could barely get it to go in first or second gear. I managed to park it, then let it sit for a little while. About half hour later I decided to try again. It did ok for less then 5 minutes, then back to the same thing...I just couldn't get it to go when I applied gas. I've asked a few friends, and some say I need a whole new clutch, some say it just needs an adjustment. It's a hydraulics clutch system. Just wanna know what the best route for me to take is, and how much it's gonna cost me either way...pretty frustrated I go buy my first car and after I get home it stops working!! Thanks.

That does suck, and happens to a lot of people! How many miles are on car, I assume you bought it from dealer? If not did owner say if clutch or any thing else had been replaced?

Doesn't sound like a slave, or master cyclinder, since it works fine til hot! So iam thinking clutch disc? Either well worn, or glazed?

i have the same exact car and model and i had the same problem and had the master and slave clutch cylinnder replaced...what you need to do is see if you have pressure when you press down on the clutch pedal and if you do then its not either cylinders so the only thing i coul;d think of would be the throw out bering

thats my guess hope that works out for ya
