ludedude25
Just discovered the timing belt was at fault so before I get any farther since this is a old car, What are the chances of the valves being damaged? I know on some of the older civic's when the belt breaks the piston can slam into the valves bending them causing a major headache. Is this true for the 89 accord also? MiekyG
ime not sure bout it being a fact that that happens when the belt breaks but i can give you some tips to check, take off the valve cover (take off the broken belt) and take a socket or wrench or w.e i thynk its a 14mm? or 15 maybe for the camgear bolt an turn the cam shafts an pay attention for ruff rotation exc. an turn the crank to TDC (TOP DEAD CENTER) see if you can feel anything hitting or so,,, if all looks seems and feels good jus slap a belt on itreal quick dont forget to do timing crank it up see whuts up~!~
Kastigir
Easiest way to find out is to pull the head.

ludedude25
I'll pass on the info to my dad and cross our fingers. He's usually up to date on service so I think it was just a cheap belt. That and the car didn't really get drove that much.
