gear speed

well since my tranny casing is starting to crack(thanks to rough driving on 2 shot mounts!) i thought i would get a new tranny. gear speed says they can get the casing for $250. an oem rebuild is $1400+ the $250 or i can go with a type II rebuild w/ quife diff which is $2300+ the $250 for the casing. im thinking bout type II but im not sure cuase its gonna be a while before i build up my motor. need some opions!


oh.... and anyone know why 1/2 gears are oem brass syncros while 3/4/5 are carbon coated?

doesnt my b-series tranny have like a 4.71 fd, or something close to that?


also, i dont make tons of money so i would like to keep my mpg's as high as possible for right now. i do 80 when im on the freeway and that keeps me between 4300-4400 rpms and my vtec engages at 4500. so i dont really want my rpms to be any higher or i will get worse mpg's cuz of vtec.
