90tegGS Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 ok so ive had my teg for almost 2 years now and ive been thinking lately about finally doing some work to it other than simple cosmetics (headlights, taillights, cancer resto, paint...) anyways i would like to say that i know an average amount about motors but im not sure which would be better for my b18a1 boosted or n/a... if i were to boost it what would u recommend for turbo and internals (also bolt ons) so i dont mess sh!t up and if i go n/a what would u recommend to have the best performance (internals + bolt ons)... i currently have a short ram intake and cat-back espelir jgt500 exhaust but im looking to go full cold air soon... also for recommendations on internals boost or not if you could give some websites it would be much appreciated...
Hatch92 Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 i wouldn't do anything with a b18a i'd swap it for a b17 or a b18b. the b18a's have no after market support.
CleanGSR Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 You won't get very far for your money with n/a on a B18a1. Your best bet is boost. How many miles on the engine? You could boost a decent bit on the stock motor. My opinion would be CP pistons around 9.5:1 and Eagle H-Beam Rods. You might as well get some headwork done too while you've got it apart. What's your budget? Don't waste your money on a CAI if you are going boost. CAI and header won't be used in a boost app.
2gboostedteg Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 I would say if u had the money, then build the motor and do a little bit of head work, but if not just boost the b18a1 with the stock internals cause they can handle up to around 12 psi safely just get cometic head gasket and a set of arp head studs and a walbro 255 fuel pump that u can get for like a 100 bucks so u dont get fuel cut. Theres no need to swap up out the motor unless you really want to the b18a1 runs fine with boost i've done plenty of them. Just remember that any motor that you turbo that isnt meant to be turboed wont last forever.
90tegGS Posted February 13, 2008 Author Posted February 13, 2008 well my budget right now is unknown but ill figure it out soon by april i should be able to do some serious work... as far as it goes ill keep this motor cuz it just rolled over 100,000 right before i put it away... boosting sounds good but ill just keep it at lower boost when i dont need it (obviously) to save the motor... what kind of head work would u reccomend?
90tegGS Posted February 13, 2008 Author Posted February 13, 2008 im also thinking about geting my ecu chipped or getting a better one what would you reccomend if i were to have a turbo app. and what is everyones opinion on the t3/t4?
lceah Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 imo shouldn't boost on stock internals to 12 psi...6-8 psi is what's considered safe usually...unless you want to boost on stock until it blows up and then get another motor? but you have 100k miles on it...done a compression test lately? what is your goal? want turbo to kick in early? or for later? if you answer this, then it's easier to tell which turbo would fit your wants...
Hatch92 Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 you may want to do some research on building a b18a1 because everyone i know swaps the b18a for a b18b or b18c

Hatch92 Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 if you want the car to run through 4th in a quarter your gonna want more up top not mid range power. the top end power would pull the car through the gears and keep it in the higher RPMs making more power in turn using more gears.
lceah Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 small turbo-less lag-good in the beginning-not a lot of power (depends too) big turbo-more lag-good for later rpms-more power and 13psi is a lot of boost... it costs to get the turbo kit (or put it together) and get the BOV and rest and controller and management and all that... and, your intake right now won't be needed and your cat-back exhaust (guessing it's not 3") will have to be changed to 3"...
90tegGS Posted February 15, 2008 Author Posted February 15, 2008 i was told it has 2.5" piping but when i put a 2.5" gasket on it was to small by about a 1/4" so (obviously) i think its 2.75" so would that cut it cuz i dont feel like spending another 600 on an exhaust... cuz a few guys i know told me i wouldnt need turbo piping i would be able to keep my exhaust... what kind of headwork would u guys recommend for turbo since that seems like my best option from what ive seen so far. and i guess i want mid to upper range for turbo so what would anyone recommend for that?
90tegGS Posted February 15, 2008 Author Posted February 15, 2008 i also found these sites for turbos if you could check them out and let me know what you think that'd be great. seems like its got everything i need? http://www.raceinspired.com/ps-1512-26-dra...filiateid=10053 cheaper but seems stuff is missing (also says b18b but then says fits all b series which should be right but not 100% positive) http://www.yourhotcar.com/prod/Custom/Perf...rger_Kit/549012 otherwise if you can find anything post it please... i found these just from pokin around on hondaforums
90IntegraC1 Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 B18B1 short block with a B18C Trans.....mild build and you'll be satisfied..
lceah Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 T3/T4 has been mentioned many times on here...good comments... I'd say you should get a 3" because once you have turbo, you'll have more exhaust to get out...
Hatch92 Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 B18B1 short block with a B18C Trans.....mild build and you'll be satisfied.. i agree. however if you still want more a t3/t4 would be a real nice addition.
MiekyG Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 its definitly not worth the N/A build on that motor expesialy in a teg i know dozens of people who boost ther ls's stock in bubbles an some get away and some just blowup but if you youre not trying to drop the motor etleast take the head off an dew a sleave guard an gasket an slap that turbine on that beotchh! but if youre gonne pull it out CP PISTONS!!!!! p.s. i got a t3 super t70 xspower ime tryign to sell PM me, and if you go turbo highly recomend injectors, pump, vafc unless yew got $$$$$ go AEM EMS<3~!~!~
Hatch92 Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 AEM EMS is a joke. i know people who can tuen just as well on crome or hondata and they are 1/10th of the price of AEM.
90tegGS Posted February 18, 2008 Author Posted February 18, 2008 AEM EMS is a joke. i know people who can tuen just as well on crome or hondata and they are 1/10th of the price of AEM. haha one of my friends is reading up on how to tune cars with a gameboy! so basically everyone thinks my best bet is doin some headwork, possibly pistons, sleeving it, new fuel pump, injectors, and throwin a turbo on it? (if i keep the stock motor) or get a b1 with a b18c tranny
lceah Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 if you want, get another motor, build it while you are still driving this car, then swap right in and turbo
90tegGS Posted February 18, 2008 Author Posted February 18, 2008 if you want, get another motor, build it while you are still driving this car, then swap right in and turbo if i turbo it right away wont that do damage to the internals if i dont break them in first?
