Trepid
I was talking to someone at a car show and they said they were waiting for JDM Vtec engines like the ones in the '02 Si and Type R to come to the US because they have something similar to the VVTI in the Toyota celicas... My question is... Are the new Vtec engines vvti and if they are will they fit in older civics, namely a 98 Lx? *edit* that is v-v-t-i... looking at it again it looks like w-t-i

theachiever
no, I was saying that I was told that the new Vtec engines for civic had a similar technology like the v v t i that toyota had... I want a civic engine but with the variable valve timing well buddy vtec stands for variable valve timing and electronic lift control and vvti is variable valve timing too. So its the same thing but for different makes.
Trepid
oh ok, VVTI is just toyota's version of vtec? so is there anything different about the vtec in the '02 models? Cuz this guy was pretty sure about something but then again he had a car that was all riced out on the outside but had done nothing under the hood. Now, for the 02 i-vtec...these engines(k20c) have i-vtec and they came out in 01. the k20c is in the rsx type s. "The B18C is the undisputed king of the four cylinders. There are more parts, more options and more ways to make power with Honda's B-series engines than any other four cylinder on the market. As packed as it is with high-tech goodies, it's easy to forget that the B-series is more than 10 years old and, with the new RSX, it's now out of production. In its place is the new K20C, a wonder in its own right and a worthy successor to the mighty B-series".(sportcompactcar)

optional187
not to diss hondas, but ferrari has been doing the whole variable valve thing since the 50's...don't get me wrong, honda is still the best...and they have extremely good engines/cars. its just that other companies started the whole "vtec" thing a long time ago. ferrari, porsche, lotus...etc...they all have done some variation of the vvt (variable valve timing) way back in the day...almost every manufacturer does it now-a-days. honda was not the first, just the first to pioneer it, make it extremely good, and advertise it. now you have toyota saying vvti, mazda saying vvt, even nissan has a 'slang' term fo it playa. so i say hell with it, VTEC RULES BABY!!!! HONDA IS NUMBER 1!!!! and if anybody disagree's with my previous statement about the number one rank of honda you can send me a little email expressing your opinion to: idontevenmuchgivea****@shutyamouf.com

WholeLottaLed
yeah, it's like lexus making a big deal about putting swiveling headlights in the RX300. s**t, the first car to have swiveling headlights was the Tucker Torpedo back in the '50s. hellyeah!!
i noticed the guy talking about the older engines using vacuums to advance the timing and he said that was vtec but not electronic, but its not vtec it doesnt do anything with the valves just advances when the spark plugs spark. i wonder how old this post is?
