i wouldn't run it persoanlly. you could get a d16 head from a junk yard for a little more than $50. the junk yard back home charged on average $80 for a head and it is pressure checked and hot tanked.

i was juss wondering...i got a 1991 civic dx hatch.. my friend wants to sell me a vtech head for it...wat do i need to do to make it work ?

Posted

so why are you wanting to swap the head in the first place?? are you planning on any modifications??? i think it's a good project to learn on but that head you got may have a bent valve?? just saying im also a beginner but i know a few things

ya my friend has alot of parts out of a si hatch same year as mine im tired of sohc non vtec lol so i want to vtec it because i dont have the money for a dif motor atm

you can pick up the d16z6 motors all day long from a junk yard for like $300

Posted

ya but i dont wanna do an engine swap atm need the car to drive but i got a friend who can do all this for me...so juss for now would the head work ?

Posted

well hatch92 has the best idea i mean swapping it would be ur best bet cause ur taking a risk with that head that may not function rite and then there goes 50 bucks and all that time you spent doing the head swap so its ur car and ur choice

Posted

its been tested it works fine theres nothing wrong with it...but wat do i need to do to make it work ? and will it work on a 91 hatch

Posted

i don't think it'll work on a 91 hatch if it's comming from a 92+. the pre-92 used a different type of fuel injection and are OBD0 the head you are using is OBD1 so you will have to run some wires for a vtec solendoid and fuel injectors plus get ahold of a p28 ECU.

lol well if i get the d16z6 do i need to do ne wiring? or is it juss a strait swap ? and i know this is kinda noobie lol but does it have v tec ?

Posted

any motor after 92 will require a little bit of wiring

Posted

damn 8hours well crap im not saying that im not mechanically incline but there is alot to do in this kinda swap i.e. wiring which sucks lol but thats cool man hatch92 where you from

Posted

i'm from NY. the swap took me 8 hours to swap into my 92 hatch however i did have to make a parts run and lunch break so there is almost 2 hours wasted on that stuff so about 6 hours or so to do the swap.

Posted

yea well is that working alone??? cause thats fast! well me im from cali, but about that same year as the head you will still need to do the wiring but im not too sure about the rest of the stuff

Posted

i don't think vtec were brought into the picture in the US till 92. i could be wrong it's been a while.

Posted

well it was introuduced in japan in 88 but not till 92 was it put into factory cars this also in japan 93 i believe was the first year in the states
