Xeryon
so because I went to school there and my wife is a graduate makes me a bandwagon fan? No, 40,000 students at a time. Any given year there are around 12,000 freshmen. That means you get about 120,000 new fans a decade from direct enrollment. average person lives to be about 70-ish, so from 20's to 70's age range you end up with 600,000 alum. Add in there are a bit over 2 million living in columbus itself. Give or take the stray idiot that likes UM and you are taking about 2.5 million fans within a 30 mile radius of the school plus students. I would say that on the worst year ever OSU has more active fans then 99% of the other schools on their best year. Just look at the arizona vs arizona st game earlier today. two schools within the same state playing each other, arizona is even having a decent year and they still didn't fill the stadium. Xeryon
if you have ever been to columbus, or ever do go to columbus you are in for a big suprise osu is not a local sports team that people root for, it is a religion here. when osu loses there are riots, when osu wins there are riots. the stadium has been sold out for the last 20+ years, several of those years were losing records yet they still filled every seat. blocks and blocks around the stadium in all directions are closed and the people party right in the middle of the streets for hours on end. when michigan comes to town to play the local police escort them everyplace each team member goes and they have to post a 24 guard at the hotel when they are here. the people are that extreme. osu fans are not bandwagon people, they are lifetime nutjobs.
