92 Civic - Trans Wont Shift - Cluster INOP - Help!

Hello All,

I am new to this forum and hope to stick around for a while. I just purchased a used 92 civic with a basic non VTEC engine 1.5? with 144K miles. I got it cheap because it has a trans problem but now I need to try and diagnose it. The problem is that the car does not seem to shift out of 1st gear automaticaly and this causes it to only go about 25mph.

I tried shifting it manually and it did change out to second gear but thats it.

Also the MPH cluster display is INOP. When I look at the trans it looks like it has a new speed sensor but the cluster is still inop.

Additionally, the shift interlock solenoid is not working. To get this thing out of gear a key has to be shoved in the shift release.

I am hoping something just needs adjustment? Kick down cable?

Do you all think the trans is shot?

Any feedback would be great!

So wait...its an automatic?? Usually people post about manual tranny problems but you say that it "does not seem to shift out of 1st gear automatically".

And how'd you try to shift it into second manually?

Sounds like he put the shifter into first, drove, and pushed it into second.

I'm not any help, I don't know anything about auto trannies.

your saying the speedohmeter doesn't work ?if its not working, thats your problem.Computer not reading how fast your speed is for the trans. to shift. It thinks your at idle.It should throw a speed code.Is the check engine light ON ?

You got Blizzard... The car is an automatic and I basically just dropped it n low gear and manually up-shfted. Odly enough the check engine light is not on? It looks like someone replaced that VSS sensor before but I will try to pick one up and see what it does.

Thanks for all the help... i will give you guys an update over the weekend.
