I have 94 s that I want to tweak the suspension, upgrade the lowers, sway bars, brakes, intake, paint body and try it on a track for fun?

does the sol need a rollbar? anyone try it? compare to smaller cars (IE miata's focus )

What?

NASA and SCAA are sanctioned racing clubs that sponsor open time attack events nationwide. You race against the time on real tracks and compete nationally.

Looks like the smaller cars would be comeptive for the twisties

I know what they are, I just dont understand the context of the first post.

Oh, I guess is the del worthy of putting on the track to get competive times within it's class? is it a decent handling car in the turns? I wouldn't show up with my 92 escort for example.

Also does the the del sol need a rool bar since it is a targa top to meet the safety rules?

It's heavier than a same year coupe with a weaker chassis. You don't need to do anything to it to do an HPDE other than get it ready for tech inspection. You don't need to even try to do a time attack since you don't have any experience.

BTW, its SCCA.

Del sol will probably be a harder car to do well in SCCA then your Escort both stock.

The del sol is a heavier car then most in its stock class unless you upgrade and go for STS2 class or something.

but even then it would be hard as the VTEC version of your car is in the same class as the SI and S version.

Also no you do not need a roll bar for your car to make tech.

thanks, ok what if I do a b16 swap plus upgrades? sts2 class I guess? then would it be remotely competive?

I would start with a Solo II rule book. Swap would put you in Street Mod and then you would run against the 500 whp Subies or M3's. Or, if you are lucky the AWE 400+ whp twin turbo Audi S4. Stock is about the only class you would even have a chance in and you would be better off spending your money on an Evolution driving school first. Then, bushings, shocks, tires.

By the way, depending on the model, the Escort might be more competitive.

ok, forget the racing with the del sol. I will eventually try to run with it just for fun on the track and because it garaged beater so damage is not much of an issue.

For street driving it would like better gearing and free reving more. and BRAKES the disc/drum combo is scary for bumper to bumper. lots of pedal fade.

I will lower slightly 1.5", new shocks, sway, strut bars for looks and tighter ride, update interior (carpet, seats, vinyl), straigten body gaps, new paint and rims. detail engine bay, intake, exhaust and drive it.

for fun i might build a swap in my garage then when ready swap it out.
