tuttle
My 99 Honda Civic 4 door LX (automatic transmition) 90,000 miles has been tough to put into Park. I faithfully have been changing the oil every 3,000 miles religiously. I push the button all the way in and push the gear shift up to Park but it gets jammed up at Reverse. (sometimes not but its happening more often) Sometimes I have to really push it harder then usual to get it to go into Park. Its kind of rough FROM Park into Drive also but more FROM Drive to Park. It almost always gets snagged as I pass Reverse. The dealer said he could have the mechanics take off the casing (from the interior of the car) and simply blow out whatever junk may be in there. I DO eat alot in my car but I cant see how crumbs could get down into the transmition through the gearshifting compartment. It looks pretty tight and self enclosed. I was wondering if anyone here knew if there was a manufacturing defect when this model was built and its now acting up or is this normal for these models or is this a fresh problem and its gonna cost me alot of money to get fixed???? Again, I have 90,000 miles on the car and am hoping to keep it at least another 100,000 miles or so. Thanks in advance for any and all thoughts or advice
..SSR..
The trans doesn't even sit under the center console, its in the engine bay. Time to get a manual unless you want to pay a little less to get a new automatic.
crxtacy
The dealer is refering to the transmisssion cable that is located by the shifter in the center console area.True, might have crap build up on that cable.Remove that console and check the cable. You might have something in there thats obstructing it . ..SSR..
The cable is covered, nothing can obstruct it.

tuttle
Doesnt matter now- cars in the shop and I'm waiting to see how high the bill will be. UPDATE!! Well its good news--its just the shift cable which was getting in the way WHY they placed it within the casing so that later on it would get all caught up in the works is one of those great mysteries we'll never know.... bill should be about 300 bucks thanks for the input though and comments
