ok, im a newb to the whole swap thing, right now i got a 93 civic hatch with a 99 B16 and im lookin to put an H22 into it, ive been doing research and im just coming up with more questions than answers, ive been told to get OBD1, when looking for engines theres all this OBD1, OBD2, longblock, JDM, USDM, H22A, H22whatever so i was wondering if anyone could explain all this stuff to me, about the only thing im sure of now is the diff between JDM and USDM, except will a JDM mount into my car? and i was wondering if i would need to get a new wiring harness and im pretty sure ill need a new ECU, i wanted to get a hondata but i was told theyre not that great, so what kind of setup would you guys recommend running?

Whoever told you Hondata "wasn't all that great" was f*cking retarded. Quite a few people will take it over Crome anyday. IMO I'd MUUUCH rather have an AEM EMS but that's some high dollar crap.

ummmm ok ill start with the comment about h22's weight...it doesnt add that much weight to the car maybe 100-200 lbs if that?? and when you build it the weight will help with traction eventhough u still will have problems....

now as far as what you will want:

92-95 h22( go to hmotorsonline.com to buy the swap)

hondata is good it is not the best but it works well. never been told anything bad about it my self but i only know about 5 people that have it. i have done a few AEM set ups when i was back at my shop and they are more detailed it seems but for the cost i would get hondata.

dont get me wrong that b16 you have is good for build ups though and if its alread wired for the 1999 ( OBD2) you can get a 96+ H22 and not have to wire the car but wireing isnt to bad either way

Hondaswap 352 what most people don't know is the weight of an h22 is really only 35lbs heavier than a b16 NOT 100-200lbs..people just don't know and expect it to a weigh a ton but it doesn't at ALL.

Alright dude, If you want to go h22 and you said you already have obd-2, don't change it back to ob1 that'd be dumb to change it again. So just go and buy an obd-2 JDM h22a motor.

DO NOT GO TO Hmotorsonline..they suck a**, 6 of my buddies have gotten a motor from them, all being CRAP. Had to send them back because of misc. stuff gone wrong or even when start up it already had blown headgasket, crap like that.

The best place to get the JDM h22a swap is from here: http://www.streetimports.com/product_details.asp?id=953

comes with EVERYTHING you need to do the entire swap. motor mounts fit for your car for the motor, axles fit for your ride. Only thing you have to do is drop it in.

Also, you can ask them for the shifter & shift linkage from the motor. Sometimes they have them, sometimes they don't. Just ask and if they do, they'll throw it in for free.

Also, dude h22a, most people say its a reallly hard swap. It isn't any harder than a b16 or b18 swap. The only difference is that you have to cut a hole in the firewall just enough to where your shifter cables can run threw it's not that hard at all. Other than that its like dropping any other motor in.

And if you were wanting A/C as well still with the h22a. It is a tight fit but you can use your a/c condenser from a d-series. You'll have to buy a adapter bracket. HCP engineering makes a bracket. Don't remember how much, but its not bad. I had one and it worked good. Its just the lines that are annoying. Totally possible though.

And Hondata is very awsome. They did good on my car and a lot more people i know.

A H22 weighs more than 35 pounds more than a B16. Wider/longer/taller block, wider/longer head, heavier IM, heavier rods/pistons, heavier crank, heavier flywheel, heavier clutch/pp. Trans is a lot heavier.

HMO is great to deal with. I've done a lot of business with them with zero problems.

the whole thing about the wires is that the dude that did the swap who had the car before me i think used the stock harness and hacked it a lil bit so im PRETTY sure ill need a new engine wiring harness cuz i just dont want to deal with that hacked P.O.S. and i was also told to use the b-16 tranny to go to hasport.com for some kind of adapter plate to mount my tranny to the motor, what is the difference between a longblock and a non-longblock?

my friends and i have all delt with Jarco, i dont know where you are located, but they are one of the best on the eastcoast. absolutely amazing to deal with, and they deliver products in top shape, i got my whole siR-G front clip from them. but thy deal mostly with jdm nissan stuff.

as for what everyone is saying about the power to weight ratio, yes, better hp/torque per pound, however that's just straight line performance.

get your car in the twisties and you will want the lighter engine for the better weight distribution.

stick with the b16 and just change some of the internals and turbo it it has alot more potential than a h22 that weights down your car in the front and i've heard something bout h22's in civic that all the extra weight on the front of the car makes it lose horsepower an not sure bout torque just stick with the b16

hahahaha..lose horsepower and tq because of weight?..hmm never really heard of that one before. Didn't know weight on a car made your motor run worse haha. You have some understeer but its not as bad as everyone thinks. H22a weighs 625lbs with tranny and b16 weighs 575 w/tranny. not much difference for hp/weight ratio. my h22a kills around these parts. Running 12.7-13.0 all day with H/E and hondata. on full interior 94 4dr civic.
