jjcuff1
I have a 1.5 s. not looking for anything major but since I want to partially restore back to a clean shape: The exhaust is rusted so I figure a good catback but might as well do a 421 header too? what brands are decent but not too much for the 1.5? I figure it will help it breath at 4000rpm suspension: (this is really needed) I see a butt load of sway bars from ARS, neuspeed etc.. The rear definetly sways at 70mph on highway and I can see how the LCA can rip out of the sheet metal frame I am thinking: front upper in engine bay rear lower 22mm, ARS bracket too? what about rear upper in trunk? new bushing all around? for front and rear arms, mounts? I am thinking maybe new shocks and lowering springs just 1-1.5"
airjordan223
theres a guy selling a Greddy Evo2 exhaust for you car on solsociety for $400 + shippings. its a really good deal for that exhaust, you should jump on that. click i have the same car so i know what youre going through. i bought an anti sway kit from suspension techniques and that really helped along with some stiffer springs with the eibach sportline kit and tokico blues shocks. EH6TunerDaniel
What do you mean the rear sways at 70??? Its ASR, and the LCA's dont rip the subframe, the bigger sway bar does.

Its ASR, and the LCA's dont rip the subframe, the bigger sway bar does. sorry at 70mph the rear end floats and feels lighter at certain times Ok looking at the sway bar threads I assumed the LCA did rip just because they look puny connecting to the frame but I can see how a larger and stiffer rod connecting them would rip as well if not supported
TS John
D'oh! I replied to your other thread. I will copy paste it here: I recommend the Tokico Illuminas with 1.5" lowering spring set. That's what I had and it worked great. Deffo get new bushings at the same time too, and I hear great things about the ASR subframe brace with the sway bars too. I'd get a header, high-flow cat, and stainless cat-back if your stuff is all rusted. People will tell you that a new cat isn't worth it but fact is people will tell you a lot of things, and cats are the biggest bottle neck in an exhaust system, period. Deffo get a 421 header, by the way. I felt like I lost a bit of low end power with my 41 DC sports though it did accentuate the top end of things. Also use only NGK stuff to do a nice tune-up. Using Bosch plugs and wires was another thing that cost me some low-end pep. Just trying to help you out with things from my experience with the s model I had for two years that I sold yesterday. They can be lots of fun even though they're not "fast." Plenty quick for my tastes and with great gas mileage. And if you wanna get a little more oomph out of it later on you can swap in a D16Z6 and keep all the bolt-ons and clutch work you've done to the D15B7. Would they still fit a D16Z6 or D16Y8? I would think so. So far the car is for fun, sun and gas mpg. I want to get it painted, get some decent cool retro honda stock 4x100 to keep the classic appeal, replace carpet and door panels, exhaust. I drove it 300 miles this weel back and forth to work and it drove great on the highway, little lacking on the hills and entrance and 2-3 and 3-4 shifts are very close almost not noticable. I think money would be better spent on a rear disc swap, solid sway bars, paint, front lip, exhaust and intake and drive the d15b7 into the ground or until I come into $$$. then just put a b16a3 for fun
TS John
I would agree with everything there except the rear disc swap. I just completely redid my brakes on my s model with new calipers, discs, pads, shoes, and brake lines and I have no complaints.
jrkurth
it really all depends on how much you want to spend and what you consider to be cheap but effective. from personal experience I can tell you for suspension, I went with KYB AGX shock/struts (about $250 all around), aerospeed coil overs (about 150, but i kinda wish i spent a little more for these, but so far so good so i cant really say yet), energy polyurethane bushings (about 130, but look at spending money to get the old bushings pressed out and pushing atleast a few in using a hydraulic press, most shops around here, in MI charge about $10-$20 a push, and there are quite a few bushings), and I would recommend anti sway bars, and strut tower bars, although i have not purchased any yet. With what I have, it is a night and day difference and you will feel every bump, crack and curve in the road. amazingly responsive. More so than any thing is the shoes your car will be walking on, so make sure you have good rubber. As for exhaust, in all reality, no matter what a lot of people will say, the cat is the main restriction. The cat constitutes for nearly 80% of the restriction, headers about 10-15 and muffler only about 5. You can just punch the cat out, however illigal in some states, and you will notice a definite hp gain. Using a test pipe or a straight racing cat with a straight through design will be best becasue there will be less turbulance in the exhaust. turbulance = bad. This is also why you want to go with a larger diameter piping with smooth bends. I went with a monza cat back system which cost about 200 and sounds great on my 1.5. Matched with a cheap air intake, (but nice filter) the car is throaty and more responsive. not ricey, or raspy. I like the monza set up because there isnt a huge ass coffee can sticking out the rear. I have not replaced my header yet only because I plan to go to a turbo set up which will require a new header than. whay spend the money on something I wont use for long that wont give too much gain? When it comes to exhausts and air intakes, a lot of times people are only paying for the name of the part from the company. you can buy a apc or any cheap intake, throw on a k&n filter and it will be just as effective as an aem which will cost you atleast $100 more. You basically have to use your judgement. mufflers do vary more from company to company, especially in terms of sound. hope this helps.
