Do not, I say again, do not do a damn thing to stand out in anyway, except PT. If you appear to be a model soldier then they pick you out for it and when you f*ck up, god help you. Be under the radar, do what you are told, to the T, and nothing more. Don't bitch, keep your bunk and wall locker straight, keep your weapon and gear clean, DON"T EVER "MISPLACE" YOUR WEAPON. Keep it in sight at all times or with a trusted battle buddy. Oh yeah, never go anywhere without a battle buddy unless you are in the barracks. NEVER call the drills "battle" or any of your battle buddies either for that matter.

Other than that just pay attention, absorb everything they throw at you. And they will throw a lot at you so it's gonna be overwhelming, just don't stress it. Never go to sick call for some little bullsh!t either. And don't get yourself hurt, its easy to do so just watch everything you do and think about everything before you do it.

And don't fire until they say "Move your safety selector from safe to semi. Targets comin up, knock 'em down." ( I learned the hard way. Reflex is a bitch.)

And above all good luck and welcome to the biggest family in the world. And no its not Virginia.

Dont try so hard to not get yelled at, cause no matter what you do they are going to get into your ass. Its like a welcome to the army thing. And dont call them sir, its drill sergeant thats it. Basically its mostly mental and just hang in there!!!!! GOOD LUCK!!! And they are going to smoke you no matter what to get you into shape so dont take it personally and dont blame it on the other guy. When this happens you will see what I mean.

It's changed since you went in dude. I knew a couple guys in my platoon who the drills didn't even knew existed. They had no idea who they were.
