Voltage Regulator?

well, i just replaced my alternator. and i assumed it would charge my battery back up. but my battery is still being drained and i was told to check the voltage regulator, get a new battery, or check the alternator wires. i heard it might be built in with my alternator so i dont' know.

no, the voltage regulator can be in the alternator, but it isn't THE alternator.

it stabilizes voltage so that your getting a constant voltage from the alternator. this compensates to avoid voltage spikes, so you don't destroy your electronic components.

Else every time the rpms change, you'd get a different amount of voltage to all electronics.

lol without it, you don't get any voltage. ask me how i know......

i don't have to ask u how you kno cuz i know too... but probllay unlike u i didn't fry my electronics. i just kno how electronics work and why u need a regulator on a car

lol i spent about 2 days going through wiring trying to find out why I wasn't gettin any charge.... untill I looked it up, and found out that the alternator I was using was externally regulated.... got a regulator on there, and BAM I had power.

voltage regulator could either be internal or external. Most of the honda alternators are internal. And the job for the regulator is to regulate the amount of voltage the alternator is producing.Alternator charges best @ i think its 2500 rpm or higher. If you notice at idle its just above battery voltage with loads off.but when you rev it the voltage goes up to 14.2V.Try running your engine at idle with all your loads ON for a while .I bet your battery volts would drop a lot.Or a slow cranking.

Have you battery tested.Probably your battery isn't holding a charge.

hmm. okay here's my problem. everything seems fine after i put that new alternator in. everything drives fine. then when i let my car sit for a while and then try to start it up, it won't start. it cranks a little then it clicks like it was a bad battery. i hooked it up to my battery charging thingy-mah-bob and it says its full. and i don't think its the starter because when i jump it, it just starts right up. what do yall think?

take all the grounds off under the hood. clean them , and reinstall. do the same with bettery terminals. all honda civics and integras have internal VR in the alternator. you got bad grounds for sure.
