New Summer build....

Recommended Posts

So I just came to acquire a 2.5 liter Subaru engine that I plan to use in my new project.

Now I know this isn't exactly the place to be asking, but I thought it would be a good place to share some stuff.

anyways... the details..... I don't know much about scoobie aftermarket, soo... lemme know if you can improve any of my plans!

I want to take my 2.5 liter subaru forester long block build it up, turbo it, and be able to push 300-350hp at the wheels.... more the better! (don't worry, the tranny can handle it.... either a porsche g50 or 930...i'm not sure yet....)

Anyways....

Exhaust:

I'm looking at gettin a borla ss 421 racing turbo header, unequal length runners

Custom made SS 3" up pipe, and t4 turbo flange.

Custom downpipe and 3" exhaust which will be emptied into the atmosphere by 2 - 2" pipes (which HAVE to exit through the stock cutouts) Prolly a straight through muffler somewhere along the line, and no cat.

Fuel, induction, and e-management:

don't know what for turbo yet..... T4 something or other.....lol

225 Walbro fuel pump

Don't know injector size yet.....

cusom intake runners, and piping air to water charger cooler.....prolly go alky injection too

going to go megasquirt fuel management with wideband control

Internals:

Wiesco forged pistons, or JE forged pistons (don't know yet)

Eagle ESP H Beam Connecting Rods

Crank- Stock..... maybe....

If you have anything to add or change lemme know!

Thanks!

Chris

Its prolly gonna weight close to 1800 lbs. ish...

its gonna have a custom frame and full double wishbone suspension (already have it drawn up in solidworks, it looks sweet!!!) which may weigh more than the stock frame. but we don't know yet. No body hacking for it to fit either

the outside NEEDS to be as stock looking as possible (including widened stock rims -> 7.5"-8" meats)

. but anything goes for engine/tranny/suspension.

your damn watercoolers have too much extra stuff that adds a lot of weight.....like.....

radiators....

I'm still stickin with the stock engine in my 74, until I find a decent type 4 block (porsche) to convert to put in my bug. The scoobie engine is going in the ragtop.

I found out last night, 1 day before I was going to pick up the engine, that the owner backed out. DAMN IT.... anyways, not to fret. I'm looking at a 2.2 out of an Impreza that has everything included.

this has a few benefits.... first of all, everything is there, and I don't need to buy all the accessories. aaaanddd more importantly its out of a turbo impreza, soooo it has a semi-closed deck, like the new STI's have. So it can take much more of a beating than their open deck relatives.

I think I'm gonna go with IHI VF22 turbo or the Power enterprise 1818F

I did like the extra displacement of the 2.5, but i'll just throw more boost at the 2.2 and go from there, but it is a better deal

lol cost..... um.... well.... yeah.....the engine and tranny are gonna be the majority of the build.... well, and susepnsion....

See I don't worry about costs..... cause well.... if you don't add up the reciepts, it takes some of the sting away.... I just build as I get money.

most of it will be time in labor tho since it will be all built by hand to cut costs.

well... i just got off the phone with the guy with the 2.5.... he changed his mind again and wants to sell it.

so i'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.....

which should I go with.... the 2.2 or the 2.5, or get both!

I'd go for the 2.2 pre-built for boost, unless you have easy access to all the accessories that the 2.5 would need.

That's me being practical, but if you're not that type of guy I'd go for whichever has the most power/reliability potential.

Or do both, screw the type 4 porshe engine for your bug, and have dual action turbo subie beetles. BAMF

What the hell are those bars coming out the back of it??

But that's better than I could ever do in SW dude. I suck at that damn program. And if can figure out how to get rid of the parenthesees in the dimensions let me know.

see beetles are like a unibody car, where most of the support is in the car itself.

pans030.jpg

Just the frame has that center tunnel going down it. then the pans attatch to the frame head, the tunnel, and the back. then the body bolts to it.

those bars are like the center tunnel in the pic. then i'll have two go along the outside, underneath the edges of the pans for more support. of the edges of the pans/ body.

the back of the bars will attatch to my rear suspension (just started to draw) but it will be basically like the front.
