jjcuff1
Ok I see the common threads for the d mini-mi or d15 to a b16 or to a k20 or to a k24 with k20 head and all with or without boost. But why the hate on the B16 swap? Granted maybe old and been done but is it because it is not trendy anymore or because it is acutlly very little gain (na) over the d16z6 or mini swap that it is not worth it vs just a d16 or d15 with boost? Here is what I see. I have a d15b7 94 s. Mini-Me z6 head would get me 30hp plus I/H/E maybe 45hp for $900 self install b16 swap vtec 60+hp for $1700 from hmotorsonline for all items plus I/H/E later another 20hp k20 90+hp for $4000 from hmotorsonline looks like the mini-me would be fun but not worth the money after the initial investment. the b16 is cheap and gets you 60hp (probably all you need for a small car to be fun) and add I/H/E you are close to 200hp. k20 alot of money for 200hp missing something? outside the unique fun factor and being a total car nut making fraknesteins the b16 seems like best all around modest $$$ upgrade? 90IntegraC1
B16 has 111 tq. you will not get 20 hp from I/H/E. Only thing B16 has is a real nice trans for N/A builds. look into a B18C1 or JDM B18C for a nice b-series motor if you want to do a straight swap. lsvtec is what i have, and crvtec is another nice set-up with the b-series....the best of course is the Type-R swap, but they're almost as much as K-series... CRG7
Everyone has his/her own preference. I'd rather a B than a D any day, personally. Then again, there are a few people on here who jumped on the B-hating-bandwagon :-
cranny
B's rock period. best 4 cylinder engine overall ever made. for as long as its been around and what it brought to the world as far as technology and compatibility and overall fun , it cant be beat. CleanGSR
My B16 was a lot of fun....I think it's a good swap. As for the K20....there's more horsepower more torque, much better power/torque curve, and better gearing with the 6 speed. That and they can handle crazy stupid amounts of boost on the stock motor and take really well to bolt ons and a tune. That said....for roughly the same price, I'd rather have a boosted B16 than a bone stock K swap.

zimmy709
yea.. b18c is a sweet motor, the b16's need torque badly, and the type r isnt worth the money unless you plan to leave it stock then i can see the love for the b18c5. h series are sweet as well, its just more of a bitch to put them in as opposed to the b's and they weigh too damn much. all i know about the K's are they cost too damn much and they are f*ckin awesome. well, thats my useless 2 cents.
