kendokid
I own a 2002 Civic EX. About two months ago, the MIL came on and the engine started revving at idle. I took it to have it hooked up to the quickie diag machine at AutoZone. The computer says its the IACV. I don't know much about the Honda motor, but I've worked on every other car I've own, so I'm not afraid of grease. Is this a difficult thing to repair? I've heard that it can be cleaned and replaced. The part appears to be dealer only (at least in my area) and kind of pricey. Any input is appreciated.
mycarsux
Why would you clean it if you're gonna replace it?? Just clean it. If that's not it my next assumption would be to check your vacuum lines.
kendokid
I should have worded the posting better. I'm not that familiar with the IACV or the Honda motor. My last car was a 93 Mustang GT. I was looking for insight into the IACV and how to go about cleaning it. Using the search function here, I read a few posts that say that if the MIL comes on, the part has to be replaced. Is it just like a plug-n-play part or what? When I remove, do I just hose it down with brake cleaner like I've heard or is there another process?
