My A/F Ratio Guage.

Recommended Posts

I have the guage hooked up to the o2 sensor on the header, but the guage says its running rich. I know this isn't true. The o2 sensor is new Its a bosh, and i'm not sure its hooked up right. Anyone got a how to or anything?

well there's your problem.....

A/F gauge is one, that you shouldn't go cheap on if you NEED it. I doubt your using it to tune your car, because well.... you wouldn't even think of using a gauge from autozone to tune.

innovate motor sports has a nice wideband unit that you can use, but its $$$..... data logging capable in the better models (which is nice), but the base model starts at $350.

I think its just my wiring and I'm not looking to spend that on a guage. I got some engine parts coming so i got it ahead of time It was 65 bucks and thats fine with me, Just the bosh o2 sensor that was installed i think some wires are mixed giving a bad signal.

If you are are running that AFR gauge off of a narrow band sensor then all you should expect is a light show. Narrow band sensors output a 0 - 5V signal over a limited range of AFR values centered at 14.7:1...hence the term "narrow band". Your choices are either get the LM-1 setup (which is excellent btw, I run a LM-1/LMA-3 setup myself) or a AFR gauge calibrated for narrow band use. Either way you are going to pay a few hundred.

My buddy has a A/F guage that reads rich when he accelerates and normal when he's off the gas. Is that how it's supposed to work?

If so, then that might explain the readings you're getting. But if you're just buying gauges to have them then I wouldn't worry about it.

Generally that's how you want it to be. WOT fuel enrichment should make the gauge show rich. 14.7 is stoich. which is best for emissions but not ideal for power. AFR in the 12.5 - 12.75 range is better for power and torque (little leaner for power, little richer for torque) for a naturally aspirated engine. The gauge should read very lean or go blank when let off the gas however. Virtually all OEM EFI setups are programmed to cut off the fuel injectors when the throttle is closed above a certain speed. AFR's will go into the 18 - 20's+. My setup will show about 22:1 AFR as that is the limit of what my wideband will read. Most widebands will show from about 8:1 - 22:1 nominal.

I have five wires going to the faze gauge its two grounds, two hots, and one signal. The o2 sensor has four its two whites, one black, and a gray. I'm not sure about the wiring harness. The gauge comes on an runs all the way to rich and stays. I don't know if the gauge is right and i'm running rich, I smell gas when its cranked aways or the o2 sensor was hooked up wrong. Or maybe buy a better setup and have a ricer gauge for now.

Have you driven the car around until warmed up? Realize that the PCM is dumping a lot more fuel on a cold engine that it does after it has warmed up. Also Faze website has all the manuals in the support section. Read through the manual and double check your connections. Particularly that line about running the ground to the engine block.
