making my car quieter

my car is loud as fck on the inside. stuff rattles, theres alot of road noise and exhaust noise. i know that sound matting will help, but by how much? i want to be able to talk on my phone without having to raise my voice. and is there a way to make my exhaust quieter from the inside? like put xtra sound deadening where the pipes are? i can use weatehr sptripping for the rattling stuff and tighten everything down, its just trying to find it that going to be annoying. my rear deck is really loose too and its held down by these ghetto plastic tack things. anyone ever tried using real screws? i dunno if i should have posted this in interior forum so move it if you like

Vibrant makes a resinator that is supposed to muffle out the exhaust some...dont know if thats wat ur looking for but...

is that something that will just muffle my exhaust or make it quieter on the inside. i love the way my exhuast sounds from the outside. it's an eargasm to me, but on the inside it gets old fast.

yeah it works pretty well. i did my whole trunk and it stopped a lot of excess noise from the subs. my friends accord we did his trunk and double layers on his doors. i think if you do the floor of the trunk it will help lessen the exhaust noise in the cabin as well. check out edead. i think on honda-tech you can get a discount

I say live it. Honestly, if you're going to mod a car for speed you have to make sacrifices. Like rattling interior, loud exhaust, etc. I wouldn't spend money to get rid of that stuff, I would return back to stock if I really hated all the negatives.

But if you wanna do the deadening, do it. No one's stopping you.

I'm not drag racing, so 5-10lbs of sound deadoning isn't going to hurt. I have to drive back and forth from long beach to apple valley every weekend and listening to the rattles, road noise, and exhaust drone makes me exhausted. i've already spent the money on the exhaust so i'm not getting rid of it cuz i like it...most of the time... so instead of choosing to either leave it alone or take everything off, i'm going to compramise.

put some stick on stuff to line the trunk and the noise has cut down by at least 25%, i'm saving up to put it in the cabin, like on the floors, doors. i also need to find something to keep the rear deck from rattling. how that thing held down? plastic tabs? other than just stuffing stuff between the metal and plastic part of the deck is there a good fix to hold it down? like bolting it down tight? something that i can remove later on when i get new speakers.

Just to add something, does the brand name matter on sound deadening, or are they all pretty much the same?

http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/ is a pretty good overview and comparison of different brands of stick on stuff, etc....i haven't used any of them yet but i have a box of dynamat waiting to be plastered. that will happen once i kill all the other noises coming from weird places just beyond the reach of my eyes and my 3 dollar tools.

in general, does anyone know the common places where older civics loosen up, or whatever happens to cause those rattles? i'd like to quiet down my new (old) car without paying someone to take it apart and rebuild it.

If you want a cheap way to do sound deadening, what I used to use in my old car that I used for SPL comp was underlaying for laminate flooring. It is the same thickness as dynamat or something like that but it has plastic vapour barrier around it so in doesn't suck up any water (wet feet, rain, snow) and allows it to dry. I stuck it inside the door panels on the floor and did the truck and tail light housings with 3M super adhesive (also water proof). That really seemed to do the trick and all for about $30 to do the whole car.

Thats just a myth by the way, my car is quiet the only thing you hear is the rev of the engine and the blowoff valve. I would have to think you would need alot of dynomat, or any other stuff to make it quieter. Your going to be looking at like 300.00 worth of sound deadning material to quiet your exhaust probable. I would have to think your exhaust make the noise from the front all the way to the back? You may just have to live with the problem unless someone has a better idea.

On my car in particular a lot of noise was coming from the trunk. I just hosed the whole trunk down with spray on rubber undercoating and am reinstalling the interior over it. Already it is a huge difference. I am in the process of doing the same for the rest of the interior right this moment.
