BuckHijo Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 I am putting a B16A2 into my '94 honda civic sedan and I do not have the time or the tools to do the swap myself so I'm going to take it to a shop to get it done. I was wondering what the price range may be for this swap. Thanks for the help and God bless.
..SSR.. Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 All you need are basic hand tools, a breaker bar, a jack, and about 45 minutes.
BuckHijo Posted April 30, 2007 Author Posted April 30, 2007 What about lifting the old motor out and putting the new one in? Thanks for the responses so far. I am also replacing transmission anything special needed for that?
TS John Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 I feel like you would need more than 45 minutes to do an engine swap. I don't think pit racing crews crank them out in under that.
xxscaxx Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 yeah seriously. for someone who has NEVER done it, it would be a miracle if you took it out in 45 minutes.

BuckHijo Posted April 30, 2007 Author Posted April 30, 2007 Ha, I kind of thought he was joking around about the 45 mins so I just let it go.
Humphries Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 it would take about 45 minutes to get it out.. not to swap. you just unhook the wiring harness, mounts, and jack it out... you'll need a lift. shops usually charge close to 500 for labor costs.
90IntegraC1 Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 I bet they'll ask for $1000 to do a swap at any shop. 45 minutes though.....that's wild.
TS John Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 I'd pay good money to see it done... to my car. Can you imagine how sweet it would be? Your friends go in to see a movie and when they get out you suddenly have a brand new engine in your car. Edit: And you've driven it around for an hour.
airjordan223 Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 i talked to this guy with a gsr sol at a HIN. he had this company in mass swap the motor. he said he dropped off the car, walked across the street for lunch, walked back and it was done. he thought they were kidding. but thats a very experienced shop with several guys working. a single person could not do it in 45 minutes
SolLesHonda Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Yes they could. If the person had everything they needed it's possible. I swapped my trans this week in roughly an hour, and that included everything, including frackin around eating lunch.
..SSR.. Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 There are about 4 people in my area that can do it in under an hour, including me.
SolLesHonda Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 I can make a vid of my trans swap for you Pyro if you don't believe me.
SolLesHonda Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 I'm just saying, if you wanna be an e-thug, I'll disprove you.
Pyrorocketeer Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Dude, wtf....? If you and SSR think your cool cause you can change an engine in under an hour, well then so be it....... your not in my book. you know thats all he ment in his first post where he said 45 min. "oh you can't change an engine in under an hour....I can....."
airjordan223 Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 im gonna agree with pyro here. if you can do it in under an hour by yourself, then how come shops charge $1000 or so to install it? the rate is per hour, and shops charge what $60. do the math.
SolLesHonda Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 I can't do an engine in an hour. He said he can, I believe him. The shop my boys work out do swaps guaranteed in two hours. I was just bragging about my trans. People are so sensitive.
