compuvision02
...it doesn't stop me from sneaking into the High School Challenge at Maple Grove Raceway. Anyways, got to the semi-finals and couldn't catch the guy, oh well, I got a nice trophy. Funny thing is, I think there was only one person for our school that actually attended still, the other eight or nine graduated or did not go there. Ha. Pyrorocketeer
"handicapping system?" wtf is up with all this bullcrapt racing.... "well.... your car is faster so you get 5 lengths"... "you get a runnin start from the staging lanes, and when you cross the start, I'll go" what happened to good ole bracket racing? humm? thats the only 100% way to be fair. plus that actually takes skill/experience
compuvision02
No, it's real bracket racing, I think they put it in a more "universal" term, since it isn't just people into cars. Everyone gets two practice heats, then comes eliminations were you set your dial, you can change your dial from race to race. 14.6 @ 96, boo! Needs a tune, but I ran consistent. Car I couldn't catch was actually a truck, a newish Ford pickup dialed at 16.4, I was dialed at 15.5, I think I shifted into second a little early, because it bogged a bit, but even if I did hit it right, I don't think I would have caught him. 90IntegraC1
Did you have traction problems? i swear your car should be running 13.5's at least....
compuvision02
Yeah, I spin thru first for a good bit and chirp the hell out of second, this was on Toyo RA-1's, 2.2/2.3 60' times. And I wasn't expecting anything faster, that's about what I ran on those tires before. Cecil is a faster track then Maple Grove too, but my car isn't running any faster then when it was stock thanks to being untuned, I've raced people before and after and it is the same. compuvision02
At the beginning of the day, all 8 lanes were filled for the high school class, only four in the UTI class. I'm guessing there was atleast 240 high school runners and 120 UTI runners. My reaction time on the last race killed too. Here are the times throughout the day. compuvision02
15.9 and you wonn?? jeez what were you racing? Do you know how bracket racing works? Look at the MPH for the ones with the "<<WIN" or "<<LOSE" next to the 1/4. What happens is, each person sets their estimated 1/4 time, the DIAL, they can not go faster then that time or else they lose, unless the other racer exceeds their time more. Object is to cross the line first without going faster then your set time. The lights drop at different times, unless the DIAL is the same for each racer, the lights drop according to making each racer to finish at the same exact time if they hit their DIAL dead on. If someone is slow off the light, misses a shift, sets their dial too fast, spins too much, anything, it can slow them down. This is where the other person can take advantage, if they get a good run, they will catch their opponent well before the finish line, but if you get ahead of them, it is smart to brake check and make sure you stay ahead of them just enough to win, because there is the chance you are going to fast and you will break out. Breaking out is when you go faster then your DIAL, you could be on a much faster pace then you intended to, just because you hooked better or anything else. So, those times when I am slow as hell, if you check the MPH they are slow too, just because I got ahead and braked. One time the guy I raced got passed a little past half track, I started to ease up and just tap the throttle, since I knew he couldn't pass me and if he did I could just hit it, he actually started to brake like crazy in hope that I was going to break out, so I hit my brakes hard and slowly crossed the line, just to be sure, that was most likely the 15.9 one. Pyrorocketeer
well maybe he ment that 15.9 out of a 14.5 dial time.....and you still won.... not just that you ran a 15.9 and actually beat someone 1/4 mile down the track like heads up racing.

Pyrorocketeer
lol, the point is is that you won. who cares how, you got the "W". as long as it wasn't cheating.... which is pretty hard to do if possible.
compuvision02
Eh, it's actually pretty easy to cheat, just risky. I could have set my dial for one second ahead of the person I am racing, just kept changing it, then just slowed down and sped up, easy to cheat, just easier to break out. Some girl did that in her LT1 Z28 Camaro two years ago, she dialed at 15's, easy high 13, low 14 second car stock. Corvette Z06 that same year dialed at a 14.5 I believe. Pyrorocketeer
wayyy to risky for someone to judge.... easier just to set a good dial, and run that dial every time.
compuvision02
I should have really set mine for 14.65, since I was running consistent as f*ck, but I know my car is more capable, so it is scary, haha.
