I just recently bought a 1988 Honda Hatch. It has the 1.5 liter 16 valve engine( i think its from the "d" series) Anyways the car over all is in pretty good shape. An old lady owned it all OEM. Only has 85,000 orginal miles. I am have two minor problems. One is a vacum leak which causes it to idle up and down and idle rough in general. I think it is the map sensor. I have tried to spray brake cleaner on the vacum lines to narrow down which line or wear it is leaking but have no luck... Any suggestions on how to find the leak? Also every once and ahile the belt will squeal really loud. Mostly at start up.. The A/C belt is removed becuase the clutch on the compressor is out.. So any ideals on why the belt squeals?

The squeal is most likely your alternator belt.

Try spraying WD-40 on all of the vacuum lines, cuz brake cleaner is flammable and evaporates too quickly. While WD-40 is non-flammable and does evaporate.

Ok thanks But what cause the altarnator belt to squeal or how can it be fixed??? I know the alternator was replaced right before I got the car...

Well thanks for the advice I will try to just tighten up the belt.. So if I am not wanting to do a swap right now does my lil 1.5 have any potential? I guess what I'm asking is it worth tunning that engine or should I just plan to swap it? The car is just my DD but I would like some more power.. But have troube deciding if I should do the typical I, E, H, Or just swap the whole engine...
