Solwings
I was thinking of building my block a lil bit, to prepare for boost, but i don't want to go extreeme. a friend of mine told me i can just get new forged rods and new low compression pistons like 8.8,9.0. With new cams and ide be ready for boost. I currently have a healthy b16 pretty much stock on the motor side, as far as cam gears. everything else is bolt on. will these mods keep me in the safe for running low boost 5-7psi as a daily driver??? and how will this affect my driving from day to day? would it give me some more horses or what? I really don't want to sleeve my block so im wondering if this will be enough for the block. i was gonna go with something of this nature here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HONDA-CIVIC...1QQcmdZViewItem
EH6TunerDaniel
You can run 5-7 psi on stock internals. Just get a tune.
Kegger
That would be perfect for what you want to do. Even though you can run it stock, it would be some insurance to know that you won't throw a rod.
EH6TunerDaniel
A good tune would be plenty insurance. Just make sure you have fuel management and a good tune and you wont have a problem.
Solwings
i know you say a good tune, but could you elaborate so that i may have some specifics, cause i put my turbo plans on hold because i had second thoughts about my block blowing up after a couple months. People give you these horror stories and it makes you think 3 or 4 times before doing it lol. Ya if you give me some specifics then ill get them done asap along with the rods and pistons. Also, what type of rod bearings and main bearings should i get for this setup? stock?
xxscaxx
horror stories come from bad builds or a bad tune. i ran a turbo on my old b16 for a couple months, problem free, on a stock block. the kid i sold it to still has it. my suggestion: build the block. trust me. i ran 6psi on my del sol, and if i could do it again, id build up the block so i could have ran more boost. if you dont build the block, and run 5-7psi on a tuned block, thats pretty much it. your going to have to build it if you want to run higher boost, and trust me...after a while, you will want to. SolLesHonda
B16's can easily take 10lbs daily stock. I know of plenty of GSR and LS's running 12-15 psi stock. Get a good tune and you'll be good.
Solwings
can you tell me what type of rod bearings and main bearings i would need and where i can get them on the net? Ill buy them today and the rest next week
90IntegraC1
Cranny recommends Clevite main/rod bearings. Apparently ACL is crap. A guy around here in a fully built, heavily boosted lsvtec hatch runs new oem honda bearings and hasn't had a problem....
Solwings
nice, Hey a nice shop around town said they would do all the work for me for 800 dollars. That includes 1. taking motor out 2.disassembling i the block 3.boring it if need be 4.reassembling the motor this is the price if i include all the parts for the job. sounds like a fair price but then again....
