ok here is the situation. I have on 02 civic si that I bought wrecked at a very very great price. We got the body work finished but have a problem with the gears. The care never shifted to begin with. When I got it, it was stuck in 2nd gear. Any time you try to shift it to any other gear it grinds as we try to get it out of 2nd. My friends and I were trying to fix everything ourselves. Body work is our trade which so far has been the only problem other than this. Any info that anyone can share would be a helpful start. We don't mind taking it to a mechanic but if you all think it could be something simple we would like to try and fix it ourselves.

sounds like bent shiftforks perhaps , definitely something out of whack inside the tranny. take the tranny out and split it , see whats going in there.

thanks for the info we will start there and see what happens. Stupid questionthough?. Since this is a little unfamiliar territory what degree of difficulty are we getting into? We are pretty savy with cars but if this kind of project is complicated then we are not gonna pretend we can do it when we cant

If the case looks fine from the outside, your shifter forks are bent or broken like cranny said.

its not that bad dude , take tranny out , take all the 12mm bolts around the case out. take big plug out of passenger side. spring pliers to open the C clip. split the tranny. than youl see whats going on. im sure it will be visable. maybe youl get lucky and be able to take it apart and realign it. id say something is definitely hurt though. you say it wont come out of 2nd right? , well when the car is running , can you let go of the clutch like the car is in neutral? or will it stall like in gear?
