Brian3311 Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 so as we were installing my full coilovers we hit a little problem. The front 2 went on no problem but when we got to the back is when i got fracked. While we were trying to get the pinbolt holding the lca the fork that holds the stock set up up my friend snaped off both sides of the pinbolt. So now i have the center of a bold stuck in there with no way to get it out. Hammering it out wont work even tho im pretty sure its not threaded. If anyone has any ideas of what i should do please post. Im really stuck as to what to do.
Kegger Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Put a punch to it and hammer it out. If that doesn't work, drill it out.
EH6TunerDaniel Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Its common for those to freeze, the best thing to do is usually soak it with pblaster and use an impact before starting. Easiest thing for you to do now would be to replace the whole lca.
cranny Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 heat it up with a torch and air hammer it out. if heat and an air hammer wont get it out , you need a new LCA. almost every honda ive ever worked on has this same issue. the strut fork bolt seizes into the LCA bushing. make sure , and i hope you did this on the front even though they dont seize as badly , grease that bolt before reinstalling.
cranny Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 good call pyro , antiseize. personally i never use it much. lube bolts before reinstalling and youl never have a prolem.
CleanGSR Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Ran into this with my car. THey had to cut the bushings out with a torch and re-press new bushings and bolts. If you're putting full coilovers on, then just get new LCA's and you'll be set.
Brian3311 Posted February 17, 2007 Author Posted February 17, 2007 see the problem is i need to get my car out of my friends garage before monday morning so i can get to work
Ben. Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Wow, this sounds like a common problem. Good luck on getting it fixed dude.
90IntegraC1 Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 well.....i'm coming over now. new LCA isn't an option. we'll drill it out....no problem. i hope matt has a replacement 17mm bolt w/ lock nut.
cranny Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 you aint drilling that bolt out , lol , funny. make sure you buy , ohhh , a dozen bits that size , lol. cut the other side of the bolt off , spread the fork a little , and get the LCA off the car. easier to work on.

cranny Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 they do , its called an acetelyne/oxygen bit , hahaha.
Ben. Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Oopsie. Forgot teh torch options. I use oxy-acetylene torches every day at work.. I've become quite fond of etching my name into copper.
CleanGSR Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Cranny's right. You're not going to be able to drill that bolt out. The problem is that the bolt starts to fuse to the bushing. You'll have to cut the bushing, press a new one and get new bolts.
cranny Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 definitely hung , they will definitely ruin that LCA bushing getting that bolt out.
90IntegraC1 Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 Sooooo Tried drilling briefly, but that failed like Cranny said it would..... then the fork on the bottom of the strut that the pin bolt runs through the LCA was cut, then the stock coilover was removed. the LCA still had the chopped, stuck part of a bolt in it.... Luckily Rob (compuvision02) had a friend w/ spare integra rear LCA's w/ bushings, so they picked those up and got new pin bolts.....i'm going over there tomorrow morning, so hopefully this can get finished up.... The front coilovers went on smooth as silk, but seems like we ran into a really common problem, so we don't feel like complete n00bs. More updates tomorrow w/ pics.
Brian3311 Posted February 18, 2007 Author Posted February 18, 2007 yea like dan said i got real lucky and picked up the LCA's that i needed at like 11 last night. I paid 40 for em. Im not really sure if i got ripped off or not but i really dont care im just glad i got the parts i needed. This needs to be done soon.
Ben. Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 Congrats on getting it off. Now get it doooooooooone!
90IntegraC1 Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 me and brian got the rear drivers side finished up, now we're all gonna knock out this rear pass. side and then we'll be done. word.
90IntegraC1 Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 All done. taken w/ mac book...sooo not so good, but we're going to Buggy Bath now to wash it, so check back sooooon
90IntegraC1 Posted February 18, 2007 Posted February 18, 2007 haha forgot to show you the old LCA's passenger side, cut at the strut fork lol drivers side, broken at both ends, cut strut fork, drilled out, and a punch jammed in there that won't come out....bwahahaha PWNED.
