dead starter/solenoid

so, i pul into a vons parking lot, go get some stuff to make some mixed drinks come back out, and she won't turn over. i try everything, clunch in, in gear outa gear, and i come to the conclusion that my started or solenmoid is dead. battery is fine, all electronics work and stuff. so currently i have to push start my damn prelude. this ain't fun. a guy i was talking to last night said sometimes the pin on the solenoid gets stuck and doesn't strike the started(or what ever goes on) and that sometimes if you get a piece of wood and hit the solenoid or starter it'll come back to life. also, the car showed no signs of trouble strating until it just didn't wanna start. anyone got ideas?
