AcesFullof10s Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 So, went to leave for work this morning in the rain, opened the door, and the driver side seat was nice and wet... luckily I noticed before sitting it it! What's the fix? Only wet on the driver side. After closing the door, there were a few stray drips from where the top meets the window. Any tips are appreciated!
AcesFullof10s Posted February 11, 2007 Author Posted February 11, 2007 Ok... so I've been reading. They apparently fixed the leaking top in '95 by adding a different type of seal. Will this newer type of seal fit the '94 and/or other years?
blackdelsol Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 the car is the same, anything they changed will fit the older model.
reewinder Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 A little late....but also try this. If it is dripping in the corner....at the top of the "wing window" part....lower your window and open the door. Next get a small piece of a 2x4 and put it in the door jamb at the back of the door. The piece should be just big enough to hold the door open an inch or two. Hold the door shut against the 2x4. What you're going to do is try to slightly bend the wing window part inward. You will want to use very little force....too much force and you can break the glass so use caution. Push gently at the top of the corner and then remove the 2x4 and close the door. Check to see if the window is closer to the weather stripping. Keep doing this until you get a closer seal and it should help a little with the leaking. After I was shown that trick my window completely stopped leaking. Just be gentle and don't try to force it.
EH6TunerDaniel Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 Im glad nobody did that to my car. If your top is leaking, replace the seals, dont bend the door.
reewinder Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 I want to clarify that.... You only want to do that to your door if it is out of spec. The corner of the window should be touching the weatherstripping. The doorframes do get bent out of shape over time. This should only be done if it has been bent away. I know it sounds scary but it is quite safe as long as you don't use a lot of force. Go to any autobody repair shop and watch how they fix things sometime. They push/pull and hammer the daylights outta cars to make them straight again. If the frame is indeed bent then how is new weatherstripping gonna stop that leak???
SLAW011 Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 yea. def replace the seals. i would advise doing that 2X4 thing as it is too risky.
