my CEL is on and i think its the exhaust side O2 sensor but i need some ways to tell..

anyone have a clue?

You need an OBD2 scanner. You can get one for about $40 at Autozone or Advance. It has Primary and secondary o2 sensors. secondary just makes sure catalytic converter emissions burn off is correct. Primary

fracks with A/F ratio. If it goes bad it'll usually give bad fuel mileage. Not sure why, but high voltage from secondary o2 sensor will mess with idle speed.

yeah im done with this tank and i got 250 mptank

usually around 315-330 averaging out 30-33 now its around 27

Autozone will scan the ecu and tell you what the error code is for free. It usually even tells what the error code is. Have them do that and see what it says.

I'd guess either the secondary O2 or your cat itself is bad. If it's the original cat then, I wouldn't be shocked if it's bad.

original cat.

ECU wont read at autozone.

gotta get a diagnostics reading but i dk where one is around here.

could there be anything else wrong? the oil's full, the dizzy's fine, the spark plugs spark, the fuses are fine, the valves are perfect, no flakes in my oil, no knocks or pings... i just dont know what else to do without doing a diagnostics reading..

this cars a pain in the ass.

i love it.

crap. I'm 11 days late. Haven't been on here in a while. My bad. My secondary o2 sensor's been replaced with an o2 sensor simulator, kinda anyways. It still has to get a heater signal from the secondary o2. This damn secondary o2 sensor simulator gives high voltage signals sometimes like a bad secondary 02 sensor.

If I leave the check engine light on it gets about 35 to the gallon because the computer's in limp mode, but when I clear codes it runs 2/10's quicker in the 1/8th mile and drops to about 27 mpg. Eventually it'll give it a high enough voltage signal to knock it back into limp mode and trip tle m.i.l. If you scan it that's code 138. You're gonna have to have an OBD2 scanner to find out for sure. You can buy one at Advance Auto Parts or Autozone for like $40-$50. The only downfall from that is it wont give you the actual voltage readings of all the sensors like a $1200 dollar one a mechanics shop uses, but it will tell you which code it is and give you the ability to clear the codes.

i still need this CEL off by next month so i can get my emmissions passed. will that do this?

but thats some great information and thanks for the help.. i will definitely look into it.

Yea when you clear the codes it will turn of cel, mil, or whatever you wanna call it. Like dude above me said you can disconect the battery, but you've gotta hold the barkes for like 5-seconds. What this does is drain the electricity thats left in capacitors in the ecu out to try and run the brake-light bulbs. I don't know how long it will stay off. Depends on how screwed up O2 sensor is.

thanks this helps.. i'll get an o2 sensor one day but i'll disconnect and do the brake trick thing tommorrow. im too cold to go back outside.. i just washed my car.
