Xeryon Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 It's stuff like this that makes it hard to finish any projects around here: So the following are two pictures of my initial problem. I think I have all of the parts and screws but I do not have a key. Right now I have to start her with a screwdriver. The column lock mechanism has been removed, so without a key the wheel still spins freely. This is the condition she was in when I bought her. So my question is, will it be easier to find a new-used column from the boneyard and install it, or should I try and get a new key made for this and try to put it back together? Next question is, my headliner is completely gone. It was totally collapsed so I removed it. The aftermarket sunroof that was installed does not appear to work either. The sunroof installation resulted in large sections of the headliner backer to be removed. I need ideas about how to go about remedying this. I thought about going to a custom interior place, but haven't found anyone that does both interiors and sunroofs yet. Most places that do sunroofs just hack apart the original leadliner and do not do headliner repairs and installs. Any thoughts?
cranny Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 for the tumbler , get a new one , the lock is obviously fuked. get one from junkyard that still has the keys for it perhaps. theres a little pin that shoots out the opposite end of the tumbler when key is removed that locks the wheel. as far as the headliner goes , just get one of them from a junkyard as well. it will fit the car obviously , just cut it where it has to fit around the sunroof , carefull and precisely , lol. if you wanna go all out , get a can of sprayglue , some nice material you like , and sprayglue new material to an old headliner , pow , new headliner.
Xeryon Posted January 30, 2007 Author Posted January 30, 2007 How do you remove the headliner without folding the cardboard? The lock isn't broken actually. Its just missing the key. The guy at the impound lot disassembled the column to work on the car. Problem with the new tumbler is that the doors and trunk still won't have a key. I haven't checked on rekeying prices though.
cranny Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 its not cheap usually dude to have keys made for locks. honda may be able to hook you up thoguh , bring them the all the paperwork on the car , and the vin and such , they can prolly get them. as far as taking headliner out without damaging it , its not easy , through the trunk dude. take back seats out , take very much care , and take it out the trunk.
Xeryon Posted January 30, 2007 Author Posted January 30, 2007 As soon as it's warm enough here that I don't freeze my nads off in under 5 minutes I'll see what I can do. I didn't think about Honda being able to recreate an original. Damn smart thinking tex! Thanks.
