Uther
I wrecked my '98 2dr EX on christmas eve and am just hearing back from the insurance peeps. The body shop guy didnt sound too optimistic about being able to fix it, somewhere near $8k in damages to a $7k car. I havent heard the official word on it yet, but I've been looking for a replacement vehicle. Apparently the '98 2dr EX 5spd Manual doesn't exist anymore, I can find that spec in Automatic, and I can find it in 4dr. So I was looking at buying a DX/HX/LX that was 2 dr 5 spd manual and swapping the engine (which is fine) from my wrecked civic, or buying one of the automatic 2dr EX's and swapping the tranny (which is fine) from the wrecked one. My mechanic says that it would be cheaper to swap the engine, so I want to make sure that I do everything necessary to bring a DX/HX/LX up to EX specs. If I swapped the engine from my EX to another model, what else would I need to change (if anything) to bring it up to the specs of my previous vehicle? Note: I do plan on tuning the car to 500+ whp if possible, but at the moment I just need it as a means of transportation, so Stock EX is fine. I've driven the DX model, and it has no balls in comparison and I just can't bring myself to downgrade. Any input is appreciated.

..SSR..
What you do is take the check from your insurance company (your car is totaled no matter who you have), and buy a 98 EX coupe 5spd.
Piercingpsycho
What you do is take the check from your insurance company (your car is totaled no matter who you have), and buy a 98 EX coupe 5spd. I got a 92 civic hatch , 5spd, SOHC VTEC that you could buy. lol
sonnyjc3
ive been there and done that. your car is totalled. if they valued it at 7 grand, anything more than three thousand dollars of damages they will total it out. sure you can press that if they buy you another civic and swapout the motors so you essentially have the same car as you had before. but they wont go for it. remember, since it was wrecked, regardless if it was your fault or someone elses fault, in there eyes, youve just become a high risk driver. so sure, they could save money, and swap motors, etc, but what happens a couple months/years down the road, when something happens to your car again. then, instead of spending 7 k to pay it off and be done with it, they spend more than 7k, in the two incidents that happened. thats exactly how theyre going to see it. if i were you, id just take the payout from your wrecked car, and buy a new one, or just let them pay it off if you owe money. just be sure next time, to get gap insurance. that way if this hapens again, youll be able to get a new car, and still have your debt paid off with your lienholder. oh btw, be sure, that if your seriously intending on having a 500 whp vehicle, that you dont skimp on insurance. i promise you, your 500 whp civic isnt going to be around forever, - youll either wrap it around a pole, it will get stolen, or it will just break down. im just trying to let it be known, that, if any of the following happens, and all you have is basic insurance on your car, theyre nooooot paying you crap for your mods. they will take your car, and sell it at auction and prolly sell it for more than your getting out the deal. your mods wont be covered unless you pay extra for each one. i just figure id share that with you, since i was in the same boat a couple of months ago. sonnyjc3
Hmm. Last time I checked with my insurance company, they cover parts if I have the receipt for them. what company do you have? i had geico and i was under my parents acct. and theyve had geico for over 15 years. and yah, the guy was not trying to pay me for annnnnything. he told me that was the case with all insurance companies though. he said, that if i wanted my parts covered, id have to provide a recieipt for them, and id have to take em to my agent, and ahve them add it on to my coverage, so id pay extra for it.
