Ok, well im new to Honda's in general, im looking into buying a 99 Prelude. I've been searching up performance parts and alot are either SH or non SH. can someone give me a link or help me understand it a little better? Also how do i know if the Prelude is a SH or Non SH

the SH model is the top of the line prelude. it has ATTS, active torque transfer system. helps handling and in low traction conditions by adding/removing torque from one wheel to the other. it may have other interior upgrades and what not, but thats the main difference between them. either one has good support in the after market area. i have a 97 non sh.

I have a non SH model Prelude, I love it I personally hate the SH models, the transmission is soo big that mostly all of the parts for the base dont fit the SH, they make many many more parts for the base (even though parts are already difficult to find for Preludes). Here are some ways to tell if it is an SH

-8th # in vin is a 5 for SH, 4 for base

-SH has an ATTS light in the dash but can only be seen if your ATTS is not working or if you only have your electronics on

-No 3rd brake light in rear deck

i got the chance to race a SH lude @ watkins glen, it was a fun car but I was having trouble finding the point of adhesion (sp)... i.e. when the tires broke free. it seemed like it didn't push/ understeer when I drove it hard, it would just go into a 4 wheel slide.

Great car though...

To clarify the Si was only available on the pre-98 models and was not the top model....didn't have a DOHC VTEC.

the si, imo, was the better model. they stopped using the si models on the fourth gens and the s was actually a carborated engine in the third gens and the si was injected and dohc in the third gens, (this is what i have). I know if i try to explain to much more im gunna get something wrong so here look for your self

but to clarify, the si was the dohc, and it really depended on the year whether it was VTEC or not

You think the Si model with the H23 is better than the VTEC model with the H22a? That's wierd and really makes no sense 160hp in the Si model and 190 in the VTEC model. I don't understand your reasoning. This is for the 92-97 models that I'm referring to BTW.
