92civic
Ok I want to be able to run up to like 10k rpm's-ish. I think I will need a good crank, pistons, rods, bearings, timing belt, and some hi-po valve springs, retainers, and locks. Is there any thing else I should need to spin it that fast safely? It's a d15b7 with a soon to be vtec head. Is there any were you guys recomend for parts? Thanks.
Rick B.
why do you want to rev that high???? its completely pointless. 8200 is the highest i think you should go IMO. and thats still pushing it.

And you're car is probably going to have serious problems soon. :- I'm trying to rev to 10,000RPM and my stock limiter is at 8,500RPM and I'm still unsure if I'll get that high. Thanks. honestly if your trying to rev that high buy an RX-7, with a few mods you can rev it to like 13K. stock it will probably rev to 10K

I bet your valvetrain looks purty...not to mention that you make less hp at 10k than you do at 5k, so I fail to see the point.

Duh, we all know rx-7 and the 8 can rev ultra high due to the rotary engine but that doesn't meen that its going to make ur car go any faster. the only reason it revs that high is because the engine doesnt work the same. it doesnt make any more power due to the fact that it revs really high and yah I would say bye bye to ur car soon if ur reving a stock civic ex to ten grand. thats just stupid. EDIT: EBAY?!?!?!?!? bleh :stupid: cmon now.
Rick B.
now all together now, "valve float" edit: now youre saying youre reving to 10k right? so that means when you shift from 10000 rpms, to the next gear, your rpms drop to maybe about 7500rpms right. you are completely missing your powerband entirely. if you want to use your civic to the full extent, you dont want to pass 7500rpms thats where you want to shift at the latest and it will keep your rpm range in the 4k-7.5k range, where you will get most of your power. reving to 10k on stock internals, your engine isnt getting the amount of air it needs for proper combustion, stock valves cant open and close that fast and im willing to bet my gsr that there is some serious valve float problems goin on. i feel sorry for your car man. you should never trust anything from ebay. ever. IMO, you should take that chip off your car, sell it, and buy an intake or header.
CleanGSR
but wait Rick.........he has the ebay chip. That will protect against valve float....right?
Rick B.
wait, youre right! *smacks forehead* i forgot, ebay chips make your car as much a race car as super duper fast looking flame decals do!!!!
IL3GL'88
this thread just got a lot better. who is this icecreamman anyways, been here for over a year, and 13 posts. that could just meen hes not a post whore but no, go read some of his posts. wow. he said "this chip is quite possibly the best mod u could do to ur honda" not word for word but he only has 13 posts so go look at it. lmao. wait, youre right! *smacks forehead*i forgot, ebay chips make your car as much a race car as super duper fast looking flame decals do!!!! yah its right up there with those NOS stickers. slap a couple of those babies on ur car and damn. itll sound like "VVRRROOOOOMMMMM" oh i found it here. lmao
Pyrorocketeer
edit: now youre saying youre reving to 10k right? so that means when you shift from 10000 rpms, to the next gear, your rpms drop to maybe about 7500rpms right. if he's puttin any $$ into an engine to turn 10k rpm's, I think he is going to change his tranny gears too... you are completely missing your powerband entirely. if you want to use your civic to the full extent, you dont want to pass 7500rpms thats where you want to shift at the latest and it will keep your rpm range in the 4k-7.5k range, where you will get most of your power. reving to 10k on stock internals, your engine isnt getting the amount of air it needs for proper combustion, stock valves cant open and close that fast and im willing to bet my gsr that there is some serious valve float problems goin on. You know.... I'd hope he'd be changing cams too so his powerband would extend up that high! plus, i feel sorry for your car if your floating your valves..... and you'd know it, cause you can hear valve float. I think the problem with this thread is that no one here really knows how to get you to rev that high.... and everyone is just bashing you with stupid "answers", and pointing out the obvious. Pyrorocketeer
and y is that? cause no one grinds custom cams for hondas? you can, just no one knows how around here.
..SSR..
No. Because the craptastic heads can't be worked to flow correctly to make power that high. Put any cam in it you want and it still won't make power that high. Most of the D drag cars peak right around 9k.
