willthiswork89
Or anybody that thinks they can help, ive been having an issue and i have a huntch about it. but my issue is 2 things, when my engine gets to about 4-5 grand, basically anytime im hammering, i get bad blue smoke(oil) i replaced the PCV valve thinking that my crankcase pressure was getting to high but that did nothing. Now im kinda wondering if it may be my valve seals worn out. of course im still very young and inexperienced at diagnosing cars but its just what i think. Also when im driving and gas it, and get up to speed limit and let the pedal go i get a ploom of white smoke(COOLANT) not sure what causes this but im not overly concerned but ide still like to figure out whats the matter with it. thanks for your time guys! Also ive been noticing that i can smell the oil all the time from my exhaust....so im not sure where to go from here.
Timmythewop89
if it were valve seals, then the blue smoke would most likely show at start up or when you let off the gas after hard acceleration. not trying to sound like hte bringer of bad news here, but blue smoke under hard acceleration usually means piston rings are hurting. A cheaper thing to try is a head gasket, process of elimination, but im pointing towards rings.
Kastigir
With both blue and white smoke at different times, I'm willing to bet piston rings and a headgasket.
cranny
im with kast on this one i think willthis , sounds like could be a headgasket. headgasket can cause both oil and coolant to burn. on the norm , headgasket aside , when an engine burns oil at high revs , it means pistons rings are getting worn. now this is how your fuked , you take it apart , replace the headgasket , fire it all back together , car no longer burns coolant , runs better , but still might burn oil. im not sure about your resources willthis , but sounds generally like your engine just needs to be freshened up. im assuming its still got ok power when your on it? otherwise you wouldve mentioned that. new rings and rod bearings , new headgasket after cleaning carbon off pistons and combustion chambers , shel be like a new engine. you never know whats gonna be involved in re ringing an engine till you actually get the head off and look at the cylinder walls , if they are ok , and still round , just a quick recrosshatch with a honing tool and fire new rings on the pistons after cleaning out grooves real good , tap pistons back into holes. tie em to the crank with new rod bearings. fire the head back on with new gasket , should be like a new engine dude. as preventative measure , wouldnt hurt while the engine is apart to throw new valve seals and guides in the head , not hard and not exspensive , and well worth it. willthiswork89
alright man thanks ill definantly try it, im taking mechanics at my school so ill bring it in and do a compression test on the engine and see if that can give me any news on the rings when i do a dry then wet compression test. as for the head gasket this should be a dead give away when i do the compression test. ill have news back to you here soon guys!
