mycarsux
Oh man cranny. Just you mentioning thrust bearings and end play brought me back to when I was into DSM's and I read so many articles on crankwalk. Lol. EDIT: Double-post FTL
Hatch92
DSM's suck with the crank walk. my buddy's gone through 4 blocks because of it.
mycarsux
Your buddy should have realized he can get a custom thrust bearing that helps prevent crankwalk. Or he should have just got the 1g 4G63 But all that is off topic. I wanna know what those compressor bearings are made of.
Pyrorocketeer
brass or some similar alloy
mycarsux
I'm gonna go on a limb and say that they were made using powder metallurgy. If so they might have some graphite imprenated for lubrication.
Pyrorocketeer
no, they weren't. there is no lead in them. they aren't main bearings for an engine.
mycarsux
Wow, the surface finish is excellent.
cranny
might be a combo of metals in them though , usually a combo of certain metals is better for oil retention rather than one metal. i think thats another prolem and difference , i forgot to mention when SSR was calling me an idiot again , lol , with a D16Y8 rather a D16Z6 , Z6 utilizes trimetal bearings , when Y8 uses bimetal , i think i read that somewhere. mycarsux
That's what my prof told me. How else can you get such ridiculously small cuts?
Pyrorocketeer
there aren't really any small cuts in bearings....just a full circle, or half circle.
