Toy Civic
I am looking for TOP NOTCH and PROFESSIONAL Honda engine builders in the San Diego area. It is a B18C1 and I want it to behave like stock (compression, stroke, bore size, etc.), but have some mild and unique performance touches........things like bulletproof rotating assembly for future upgrades, P & P head, higher revving valvetrain, etc. The car is pure streetcar, will not be raced, and must be able to pass a California smog sniffer based on the B18C1 OBD1 powerplant (I've already passed the smog ref). I would consider staying with the B18C1 block, but switch to LS rotating internals with longer stroke for more street torque. I am not looking for responses like, "I have a friend who.........", or "I know somebody who.........". I want a fully licensed and BAR associated professional shop, not some hole in the wall. Somewhere in the league similar to classic and muscle car building. I hate it when you talk to shops like Pann Autosport and Engineuity and they refuse to tell you where they send motors and heads in in to be rebuilt. Please don't tell me to go to AEBS where there is a waiting list from HELL and you have to mortgage your house to get an engine built there. Also please don't tell me to go to John Campos at Precision Head and Machine, only spend $800 on labor, and not offer bearing choices, not check the threads on ALL holes to make sure they are not going to strip, etc. I am open to all other suggestions though..........somewhere in the middle. Rick B.
here ya go monkey boy. Pann is a good shop, they use green light honda right next door. Why don't you just get the parts yourself, and build it. It really isn't that hard.

..SSR..
Robert Martin of Rocket Motorsports. He's in LA and worth the drive. For the quality of work you want done, labor isn't cheap. When I build a longblock and set all clearances as well as modify parts myself (weight removal, less friction, oiling, etc) I charge $1,500 labor. Don Flores, R. Martin, RLZ, etc will all charge around $3,000 labor, but that includes headwork (add for extensive headwork as their good K heads run $4,000 for headwork alone). That Guy
go to "theoldone.com" they will due everything they can to make sure your motor is completely balanced and straight from every angle. the do all types of machining from posting blocks to valve jobs and honeing decking etc etc. they are very precise thats why i like them. they dont send it back til its perfect and exactly to your specs. or theirs if you dont know anything

..SSR..
Funny how Larry's personal engine didn't last long at all...
That Guy
ya cause he wanted to see when the power line would drop cause it didnt drop at 9k, he figured he could get it up to 10k but didnt prep it like he should have. they built another one but more carefully with the same set-up and from my knowledge havent had any problems. he just got cocky with it the first time lol. ..SSR..
Wrong. His funky ass honing put a pin-hole in the sleeve causing it to leak and rust. Didn't throw a rod or spin a bearing... Larry doesn't like to rev high anyways. He has been quoted saying that he has spent too much money on high revving explosions.
That Guy
im just going by what he said himself in an article about his crvtec build. i didnt catch what exactly happened but no cylinder was salvagable after the first build blew on him. and the second build was ment for high revving considering the last one blew because he was revving too high. or maybe you were talking about the 2nd build. i dont know but i thought they did some good work, funky or not lol. what kind of machineing would you do differently? ..SSR..
I'm talking about his mother of all builds, the Dart block build. Larry doesn't build stuff for high revving anymore. He builds it for low end power, sometimes it just happens to make good top end too. I would put a regular hone on it versus a half-assed hone. He does good headwork.
