FastestD16Y7
Does anybody know what's the 1/8 or 1/4 mile record for the fastest D16Y7 on a civic with nitrous or turbo is? And if you think you have the fastest, let us know...
SolLesHonda
People have easily broken into 10's.
GsrCrx
Easily? I dunno about easily, but I deffinitly believe that they are in the 10s...
CleanGSR
I think what he was saying is that it's fairly common to see them in the 10's.
SolLesHonda
How is it not easy. I can name everything you'd need. It would cost about 10,000 bucks.
GsrCrx
I think what he was saying is that it's fairly common to see them in the 10's. Ohhhhhhhh..... I meant acually driving it on the track, Maybe easy for you, I deffinitly couldent do it.
mycarsux
Getting a car like that into the 10's isn't hard. The biggest things are dedication, patience, and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. The first two will get you the last one.
FastestD16Y7
Yes but I'm talking about a SOHC engine...non V-tec
mycarsux
What's a "non V-tec" ?
Kegger
We realize that. Its still done quite often. Its really not that hard to build a motor to run 10's. It happens alot.
cranny
building a 10 second non vtec sohc engine is not impossible of course , but very impractical.
..SSR..
Same ports as a Y8. Same chambers as a Z6. Put a cam in it with a built block and a turbo along with a EX trans and you can easily get in the 10's. P1 Auto put a Full-Race stage 2 kit on a stock Y7 along with a Z6 trans and it is running mid 13's on street tires.
cranny
its the other way around SSR , the combustion chambers of a Y8 are better than Z6(smaller , higher compression) , but thats about all thats better. the Y8 oil pump has half the flow , the crank has half the oil holes. couple of reasons why a Y8 block is not as good as a Z6 block. spin bearings too easily in a Y8. 10's are not easy. you need to be putting at least a very solid 600 horse to the ground to run a 10. period. and 600 horse in a D is gonna cost you a little. ..SSR..
LMAO. I said it has the same chambers as a Z6. Y8 has quench pads, Z6 doesn't. Oil pumps flow the same. Cranks are the same with the exception of the Z6 being radiused (sp?). You don't need 600whp for 10's. 300whp will do.
cranny
Z6 and Y8 chambers are not the same dude. the oil pumps i can tell you 100% are not the same , the Y8 pump pushes alot less oil than the Z6 pump. ask anyone that has built and ran Y8 engines , they spin bearings easily due to lack of oil getting to the bearings. the cranks in Z6 have more or bigger oiling holes than Y8(some people widen the oiling holes in the bearings ive read before installing). you might be able to run a 10.99 with 350 horse in a civic hatch(my buddys 93 hatch with LSVTEC turbo and b16 trans has dynoed 330 horse runs a 10.9). but to run a 10 flat , your gonna need at least 500 hitting the ground solid. you can LMAO all you want , your wrong. and your wrong about the Y8 and Z6 as well. plenty of differences. you just dont know them. as one example , a guy i work with , kenny , runs an old dodge dart with a 318 smallblock , 2.05" fuely heads(which are huge cause im sure you dont know anything about any other engines other than hondas) , 4.55 FD gearing in the ass. hes got at least $25,000 into the drivetrain , dynoed 625 horse. this car is built for putting power down off the line and keeping it down the whole way. he runs a 10.90 , and his 60 foot time , is with the front wheels in the air dude. you seen pinks lots of times , what happens when a 550 horse civic lines up with a 550 horse V8 rear drive car???? exactly , honda gets spanked , everytime. so if it takes 625 horse for everyone else to put down a mid 10 , why is it different for you? are you magic? are you special? short bus special maybe. ..SSR..
You're an idiot. Y7 has the same chambers as the Z6. Oil pumps are the same. Mike Belben figured this out after taking both apart. I figured this out after doing the same. Y8's spin bearings because the cranks are not radiused. 10 flat, 10.90, who gives a crap, it's still a 10. 300whp along with good gearing and suspension and you can run 10's. cranny
just telling you the differences dude. i dont care if you think im an idiot or not. even when im right you deny it and call me idiot , lol , its hilarious i think , you think it hurts my feelings? hahah , i could care less what you think dude. good luck running 10's with 300 horse dude. youl never change. always knows it all and noone else knows nothing. Z6 crank im almost positive has more or bigger oil holes as well.
Pyrorocketeer
[quote name='..SSR..' date='Dec 13 2006, 10 flat, 10.90, who gives a crap, it's still a 10. 300whp along with good gearing and suspension and you can run 10's. yeah, its still a 10, but barely. "yeah its a 10 second car....on a good day." a 10.9-- is no where close to a 10.000. I also agree with cranny that its damn near impossible to do with 300hp. Even rear wheel drive cars won't be in the 10's with 300 horse. And we know how crappy FWD is off the line compared to RWD. You waste your time and money, and prove everyone wrong. Humphries
350 whp d series could do 10's. wouldnt be a waste of money in my opinion

cranny
no 350 would get your into the 10's , i wouldnt say consistently , but its possible. need LSD differential at least.
