1badc5
So which do you all think is better? Imports or Domestics? I need to write a factual argumentitive essay on any topic I want, and I chose this. I came up with a few facts I need to compare the two on. Please keep all comments un-biased, I do need FACTS . Here are the categories: Why are they better? Gas mileage comparison? Speed + horsepower+ weight+ lb/ft torque comparison? Comfort Looks What makes the car better? Rotary engine vs Inline 4 vs V6 vs V8 Cost + price of modification aftermarket parts maintanance Thank you for reading, hopefully I can get a good grade off of this and learn something else about imports. I own a 1998 C5 coupe with 442 rwhp and 440 rwtq, and I've already taken this to corvette forum. So now I need to know why Imports are better(like I said earlier, keep opinions to a minimum, I need facts)
XScarAudio
Imports - 1. Gas Consumption is better on Imports (in general) 2. HP to Weight ratio has been better (but is changing in recent years) 3. Longevity - Seems that japanese / german cars retain quality for a longer period of time Domestics - 1. Straight up power of V8s 2. History....that truely is amazing. look at the Vette, Mustang, Impala etc. 3. Price. In general, less expensive than Japanese counterparts. There's a few just to get ya started. BTW, welcome to HF!~

For one, I got my vette for 19k with 22k miles on it. All of my mods combined make around 32000. I'm allready at 442 rwhp with 8k to go before I reach a stock TT supra. Plus it's more comfy ;)
Pyrorocketeer
3. Longevity - Seems that japanese / german cars retain quality for a longer period of time German yes, Japanese, no. Look at all the old original American cars still on the road today. Then, look at all the 80's - 90's japanese cars in the junkyard....
TLontheDL
? You honestly think old domestics (good ol' american muscle cars) are all in that condition without restoration??

Vettes, vipers and such are of course exceptions. there are always exceptions. welcome to the forums!
Pyrorocketeer
oh there are a lot of restored I know. Easier to restore, because of higher quality. (Less stuff to fix) There are more originals too. And Germans....well...everyone knows German steel is the best.
TLontheDL
german cars are known to last but i have yet to see and old bmw on the road. I mean I do see them but its RARE. ive seen old benz and v dubs though but not old bmws.
1badc5
My project is mostly on Japanese Imports vs. American made domestics. Anyone else have anything else to add?
EH6TunerDaniel
There is so much I want to say, but dont have the time right now, so I will only say one thing. Rotaries suck, if they were so good, why are piston engines still the norm over that torqueless wonder?
XScarAudio
Of course my statements were blanket ones... As to longevity, 80s japanese cars rusted out....but ran forever. 80s american cars just rusted out..... in the 90s, japanese cars did something to make their sheet metal much more durable. As to pricing, for overall $, the vette is the most bang for the buck when compared to the NSX, M3 bmw, Porsche 911 and so on, but, FEELS more american (by no means cheap, just less importy) on the interior. Pyrorocketeer
torque comment comming from a Honda guy..... they are built for rpm's.... not too many engines can do 12,000 + rpms. (real world cars, not F1.) they make power through rpm's plus gears.
EH6TunerDaniel
I knew you would say that, lol. The Real world rotaries are not revving to 12000 RPMs either. I havent seen one with over 9000, the same as an S2K. The rotary is just an experiment that failed a long time ago, but for some reason was never scrapped. Pyrorocketeer
Just messin with ya haha. they are about 9,000 stock, but with a few mods they will push 12,000. till the point of the eccentric shaft starts to flex too badly.... Plus they are really inefficient... but anyway...lol back on topic.

1badc5
Rotary engines have to be replaced every 60000 miles anyways... Rotary engines suck... Communism worked in theory too though ;)

Communism worked in theory too though ;) no they dont. my brother has a rx7 with 130,xxx on it and it hasnt been replaced. rotaries have 29 less moving parts or something, so if you take care of them like anything else, they will last

GsrCrx
I think he said he posted up in a corvette forum as well... Get the strong aguements from each side. From the people that know what they are talking about... I dont know how far back you want to go... but you might want to mention how honda, and a couple of other japanese cars became very popular do the the oil embargo back in the 70s I believe 74-75, they were very efficiant cars compared to the V8s of the time and it took domestic car companies a while to get to where the imports are in terms of gas mileage and longevity. EDIT: Not any of the catagories that you listed in your first post but you could proally bs sumthen in an introduction or conclusion paragraph, or just as a space filler... **Shrug**
