Zufan
Hi guys...i am writing back for more advice about my 1990 Honda Civic GL (1500cc). Its been giving me hell for the past year and i really dont know what else i could do. The Initial problem began about a year ago ..the cold start would go smooth but after i would park the car and re-start an hour later..it started to miss, big time . It had no problmes on initial cold start but would not re-start. I thought it might have flooded and let the car sit for about 15 minutes, then it started fine but was running really rough (when i accelerate it would hesitate and miss like crazy) as it was jerking and generally felt like there was "fuel delivery" problem as it cutt off everytime i tried to accelerate....that was about 6 months ago, since then i have posted a few threads on honda forums and was advised to replace the fuel filter and fuel relay...so i replaced the Fuel filter and fuel relay the spark plugs are clean too . Because i live in London , i really cannot afford to drive the care every day...i drive it about once every 2-3 (thats right..congestion charge is like $15.00 for one day for driving in central london) months so i really dont know if i have an ongoing problem or a new one..since i drive it a couple days and park it for several months . However i do warm up the car every week. Anyway just this week i was preparing to hop in my car to do some shopping but was devastated to yet again learn that the car is still cutting off while driving...basically when i stop at a red light and engage the car in first gear, it will putter and misfire . Its like the fuel delivery cuts off..Actually i am getting good at predictinw when it will drive smooth and when it will drive rough ...the way i do this is when i am idleing the car during cold start...i step on the accelerator and if it misses, then i know that it will miss when i drive it as well...when there are no misses during idleing then i know the car will run smooth. The car is generally in mint condition . Its only got 50K original miles and otherwise, the car is like new...when it idles right, you cant even tell if the engine is on or off because its sooo quite. I have read on some posts that the next stage in the game might be to replace the fuel pump...but could this really be the problem...the car drives fantastic on some days and on other days like last week, it started but cut off soo many times that i had to return back home because it would have been near impossible to drive it . It seems parking the car for a few days and re-trying makes a difference...i have no proof..i am just guessing. Sorry for the long story...any pointers immensley appreciated. Hatch92
when was the last tune up on it? change the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and if you want to go all the way the air filter and fuel filter again. the plugs, wires, cap and rotor should fix the problem everything else is jsut a plus. Thanks for the speedy response Hatch92 . I inherited the car from father in law..he was a meticulous maintainer so i doubt he would have passed on the car without first making certain it was in excellent order since we had to drive the car from Austria to UK . It drove perfect all the way through...until a couple months after settling in UK . I dont think the petrol would play any role but he did say he used the " super unleaded " gas on the car and over here, i have just been using regular unleaded. I suppose i could tune it up...but truth be told, i have it so few times...but yeah i could do a tuneup...BTW do you know the gapping for the plugs on honda 90 civic GL ? Not sure if they sell pre-gapped plugs for my car since they consider it a LHD Import..and therefore harder to find parts for...but ofcourse the plugs should not be a serious problem. I changed the Fuel relay and fuel filter less than 6 months ago...did you have similar problems too? Cheers Zu
