92civic
Ok I found a car in the bone yard with the 1.6 and it looks like the vtec, but doesn't say anything on the valve cover? How do I know? And does it have to say vtec?
GsrCrx
Look for the solinoid... its usually to the left of the valve cover...

EH6TunerDaniel
Yeah, check for a solenoid, or the engine code. D-series vtec solenoids are on the far left of the backside of the valve cover.

92civic
Theres a guy with the vtec head off of a d16y8 w/distributor for cheap, would that be the most power for the head swap? In that pic, isn't that were the distributor goes?
..SSR..
No. D16Z6 head would be. If its in a junkyard someone might have got the solenoid already. Engine code will be D16Z6, D16Y8, or D16Y5.
92civic
some one told me the y8 would be better? He only wants 50 bucks for the head. Would it add power? I also would need the ecu though.
..SSR..
Considering it has less topend than the Z6... You need the ECU that matches the head.

92civic
Well I found this....... d16z6 head with a chipped ecu, crower cam, crower retainers, crower springs, stock valves, new valve guides, ported and polished. He want's 550 for the head and ecu and 450 without ecu. I think that would be a good deal and add some hp. I think I want to save up and get it. What kind of power would be added with that? I have a d15b7 in my car with a 4-2-1 header,a full 2.5" stainless steel exhuast with no cats just resinator and "fart" can with out the silencer, and a cold air intake with k&n air filter. Exhaust alone really helped this car.
90IntegraC1
no....it didn't. 2.5" piping is enormous for a 1.5 L sohc engine....you're just making noise. Yes, that head is a great deal, and you need to buy it.

Yes, that head is a great deal, and you need to buy it. I want the head I just need to save some cash up,I just started a kick ass job and am moving into a new place so it might be a little bit. And as for the exhaust ,pretty much every exhaust was 2.25" and up and it did helped alot.Whats the differance in size? Like I said all the others were 2.25" and 2.5" not like you loose power from it. Maybe a very little bottom end,but is still gained alot of power all the way threw. What kind of gain should I exspect?
adamEj6
hey GsrCrx, are you keeping that motor?

Yes, that head is a great deal, and you need to buy it. on my y8, 2.5 made a huge difference cmpared to friends w/ 2.0 or 2.25. I consistantly ran .1 - .2 quicker in my car w/ just the exhaust (before all other mods)
..SSR..
My header has a 2.5 collector. All shelf stock D headers are 2.25"
