nightshift customs 95
Alright I have a 95 Civic with a 96 Integra GSR motor swap. My question is about the idle. My idle is steady and doesn't fluctuate, but once the motor gets warmed up it increases from 1000 to about 1200. Sometimes it goes as high as 1700. Now I know I have a misfiring piston, but I'm not sure if that's causing my high idle, because when I draw power from the car (i.e. turn on headlights or heater) the idle goes down slightly and keeps going down when I turn on more accessories. The more accessories I have on, the lower the idle. My friend said I might have a highly powerful alternator, but I'm not sure, seeing as I just bought the car. Can anyone give me any ideas on what might be the cause of this?

boostedb16
Some one has been trying to "tune" on the car by adjusting the idle screw. Problem is they turned it the wrong way. It's kinda like the choke on the old carborated cars. Once they were warmed up you could tap the throttle and they would idle down if tuned correctly. The idle screw on your throttle works the same way...kinda. Okay now this is HIGHLY illegal so if you ever want to sell the car I wouldn't suggest this. I would take it to a Honda dealership and let a certified tech do it to cover your own but. But if you want to keep the car or just don't have the kind of cash to take it some where here's what a certified tech is going to do. There is a small screw between the MAP and the TPS. From the factory the screw has a black piece of silicon over it that you have to pull off. But since someone has already messed w/ yours it's probably already gone. Now just let you car warm up and leave all accesories off. either use a DMM to watch RPMs or have a buddy set inside the car to watch them. Turn the screw an 1/8 of a trun at a time untill you get the RPMs where you want them. And then tell no one you did this!!!!
