patriot301
hi i have a 1998 Accord V6 and over the past few months, there has been some really ugly paint damage at different places on the vehicle. it looks like a vehicle which was purchased in the 1960's. i have some pics which I would love to post here but i see there is no option to do that within this forum. i am looking to see if any other folks out here have had this problem and if honda did anything to resolve it. several body shops have told me that it is a bad paint job by Honda. thanks patriot301
99CiViCSi99
thats impossible. honda does not do bad paint jobs, ut just doing something bad and getting paint chips everywhere.
patriot301
I dont quite understand what you are suggesting here? you think i am doing this deliberately? i have maintained this car very well since I bought it brand new in 1998. this paint problem - i have no idea how/why it has started and how to prevent it from doing further damage. i have asked some good body shops around here about what i could have been doing wrong and they all confirmed that it is a bad paint job by Honda. my post here at this forum is not to dispute whose fault it is but if anyone else here has had similar paint problems on their vehicles. thats impossible. honda does not do bad paint jobs, ut just doing something bad and getting paint chips everywhere. 90IntegraC1
do you live near the beach? the salt in the air does bad damage to the paint at the shore.

TS John
Well the East Coast is still bad to paint what with the wide variation between seasons and all. Plus there's lots of rain and snow, which leads to salt and other chemicals on the road. I would love to see these pictures of what you're talking about. Just do a search for "free image hosting" and use whatever comes up. Or, just go get a PhotoBucket account. Of course it's possible that you got a bad paint job from Honda. Anything can happen. Post up those pics and lets see what can be seen.
CRG7
What exactly is the "bad paint"? Is the clear coat removed in spots? What color is your Accord? A peeling clear coat is known on 92-95 Milano Red Hondas, for example.
Humphries
my friends 97 civic LX 4 door is like a light green and its peeling all over the car. looks like the car got sunburnt.
Pballer2005
i think mine is doing it too, its looks like towel lint from a distnace but when you get up close its actually little spider web like cracks in the paint. its a 99 olive green civic, but i'm betting its cuz the previous owner was a tard and didn't take care of it, when i bought it there was NO wax left on the paint, like it hadn't been waxed in years. if i wanted to repaint it how much would it cost for a good quality paint job of the same color? i mean just painting, i would take the panels off and prep them myself then just bring them to the body shop cuz i don't want to pay someone for somethign i can do myself, and no i can't paint it myself i don't have the tools for it. b16bhonda
if you go with the full paintjob, i recommend going with someone very experienced...you'll pay for what you get when it comes to this, so don't cheap out. a good job should cost around $2k...a friend of mine painted my car for $2500, all i had to do is buy supplies. but that was a full color change from red to blue. here it is for reference ---> http://www.teamxracing.com/?cid=1456 the paint pics at the bottom. a paintjob of the same color shouldn't be nearly as much...like i said probably around $2k total

Where is this happening on the car? If it's like the Milano Red problem, it's probably on the fenders. You most likely won't need to have the entire car resprayed. It would be best, due to fading though.
Pballer2005
are you asking me? if so its happening on the hood. i was just asking about the paintjob cuz i bought my car used and the previous owner kinda abused it so there are scratches everywhere and etches water spot and bird crap stains

patriot301
Hi I wanted to share this experience with the folks who responded to my posting. I opened up a case at American Honda to look into the paint damage on my vehicle. After much deliberation, they agreed to pay me $700 toward the damage and allowed me to get it repiared at the body shop of my choice. Since I am selling the vehicle, this worked perfectly well for me. Thanks pat301
Chubs
Wow I just read your thread and I realized that I have a friend wtih a white 1998 v6 accord and the paint on the front bumper is practically pealing right off.
