Crossovers

Just got a new Polk component set to replace the stock one. I got the speakers replaced, but just connected them to the factory harnesses. Would it be worth it to wire in the crossovers? If so, how exactly should I do it? Wiring the crossovers to the speakers is cake, but I'm not sure how to bring the input into the crossovers from the head unit.

EDIT: Ok, I think I have it figured out. I should just have to use a patch cable to bring the left/right front speaker wires from the harness on the stereo to the leads on the crossovers instead of having them go to the harness that goes to the factory harness. Sound right?

most aftermarket decks now have crossovers built in dude. also known as high pass filter. most decks have crossover for subs built in too , low pass filter. if not its as simple as runing it to the crossover , than out of it and into the speakers. its either speaker wires or RCA cables that feeds it. unless your into optical setup which is sillynous.

Out of curiosity, how does the deck handle the 6.5" and the tweeters? I checked the wiring diagram in the service manual, and it looks like in the factory wiring, the tweeters are wired in series with the left/right woofers. So I'm not real sure how the deck would sort that out.

Anyway, if I were to wire in the crossovers, should I just bring the wires from the deck into the crossovers instead of into the factory wiring?

you should have 2 crossovers one for each door. mount them inside the door. run the speaker wire that feeds the factory speaker in the door to your crossover(feed or IN). and than speaker wires from your crossover should feed your mids and tweets. the proper crossovers you need , should have line in and 2 outs (one ffor mid and one for tweet)
