H22A Questions

So I've heard that an H22A in a CRX is a tougher swap, which I don't really mind, but I've also heard it hinders the handling, why is that? Seems to me for a road car a B18 is best and for just a strip car a H22 is better. Also don't laught but what do the a,b,c,d stand for at the end of the engine code? What one is best?

i dunno if you're getting the USDM or JDM engine, but take a look at this ^^

i think you should do a LSVTEC crx. that's what's up.

I know ls have very good torque. I don't know how much torque an H22 has. But I would definately go with the ls/vtec. I've heard that a professionally built one will hit you up with over 200 hp to the wheels dude. Also imo it's a great engine for street or strip. Not sure about Auto X, though.

Edit: Sorry about the H22 and not knowing the torque, I should have read 90IntegraC1's post, I thought I already knew most of the stuff that was in there.

H22 does have more torque and hp than an lsvtec set-up, but overall the H22 is a much weaker engine and does not like boost.

fyi- lsvtec is an ls block (b18A1/b18b1) with a vtec head (b16a/b18C, etc)

lsvtec is probably the optimal set-up for a honda just because you have the torque from the LS engine and the high-revving power from the vtec engine. it's the best of both worlds, and is great with boost.

a1 integra 90-93, b1 integra 94-01 I think the b1 has a little more torque than the a1, but not sure.

As for the heads, I've heard/read that the b16 head flows a lot better than the b18c head.

Now, I'm not really sure about all of this. Hope it helps.

Edit: Oh, about the torque difference, I don't think it's that much, if there is a difference at all.

Peace bro.

Well i have a H22A1 in a CRX SI to with 10 LBS on it and never had no trubble with it . but i also do my own tuning!

that extra weight from the H22 is what hinders the steering, it causes understeering and is easier to lose control of. an LS vtec is a perfect setup as long as you keep it moderately built, dont go all out on it just typical mods like intake header exhaust etc. the LS non-vtec actually has more torque and potential when building it N/A. this is just from personal experience im sure other people have built killer ls vtecs but overall ive experienced and heard of non vtec ls's being a more potent motor.

okay, first off, if u wanna drop a H22a in a rex, get very familiar w/ a torche or a plasma cutter. u have to butcher the engine bay to put that sucker in there. secondly, I have a b16a1 in my rex, and idk abt you guys, but i prefer having a smaller higher compression engine rather than the 2.2 liter prelude motor. sure it'd look cool at shows and stuff to have the H. but on the street, u can just put so much more stuff to the b series engines without having major problems, i.e. boost, nitrous, etc. Then again, if u build u this h22...it could be killer, more work regardless, but it'd all pay off with enough time and enough cash. I like my b16 b/4 when droppin it in, we only had to cut the front cross member...and that was so that the header could fit. The choice is up to you mainly, i'd stick w/ the b-series motor myself. As a matter of fact, go check honda tuning's magazine like....i wanna say april of last year...there's a h22 rex in there and it'll show u all the b/s that u have to go thru to swappin it.
