CRXJerk
Hello, i have a 88 CRX 16V and i have oil on my spark plugs. It doesn't seem to be blowing blue all the time which makes me think its the valve seals but, there is a lot of oil on those plugs. Are there things i can do to test the motor? Oh i also have a chunk of the ceramic from the spark plug in a combustion chamber....so if anyone has any ideas on how to get the little bugger out.... i'm about to try cranking the motor by hand to open the exh valve and using a blower to blow the peice out through the header.....i don't have a cat so if it works it should be flowing out the tail pipe
90IntegraC1
the oil is leaking past valve guides or piston rings into the combustion chamber. you need new plugs.
CRXJerk
Yes, but should i do a compression test to see where the oil is comming from, i'd like to avoid spending money ripping the head off just to find out i could have done a simple thing related to the valves. I'm just not sure what to look for when doing a compression test to zero in on the problem. I'v been told that leaky piston rings will cause blue smoke all the time when ur running ur motor...which i don't have....well not that i could see, the car definetly smells a little dirty. BUT, if it is the valves......do i need to do anything major? such as rip the damned head off... :(
cranny
put new seals in the spark plug holes of your valve cover. and for getting that piece out , try taking all the plugs out , use a strong shop vac and put the end down the hole , and crank the engine over and listen for it to come through the hose and hope for the best. and oh , for the next time , dont do anything stupid like drop a piece of ANYTHING , into the cumbustion chambers , lol , dam hindsight always 20/20 aint it , hehe. CRXJerk
First off, thanks for the info, i'v already installed a new valve cover seal months ago and i'm still getting oil.....so i'm sure thats not the problem. Second, ha funny guy, keep the captain ovious remarks comming eh lol. Those damn plugs sit soooo deep that i didn't realize the plug broke till i looked down the hole, damn that pissed me off lol. My main question now is do i need to pull the head off to fix the valve guides? i'm hoping that's what the problem is. Cheers
cranny
you have to take the head off and strip it down bare almost. you need a valve spring compressor.
