InfinitePrelude Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 Im running a p1.7G centrino with only a 64mg graphics card. the only thing i can upgrade in my laptop is the ram(memory) but will this help me it to play games. cause at the moment it struggles im thinking of upgrading the ram from 512 and adding another 1024. is it worth it? or just build a normal computer?
Blackoutt Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 Well I say that building laptops is lost time because they are very hard to do.If I were going to build something I would build a tower because it has the slots for everything to be upgraded. Laptops deal with to much chips and motherboard problems when trying to make them faster.
CleanGSR Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 Bottom line is that a regular desktop computer will be far superior to a laptop as far as gaming. The only laptop I'd ever condiser buying with the intent of using for gaming would be an alienware. Of course their gaming laptop is over 3 grand.
InfinitePrelude Posted March 3, 2006 Author Posted March 3, 2006 hmm.. kool don't actually know how to build laptops only computers. i think i will build a computer at the end of the month (pay day) but for the time being is ram on the laptop going to hold fort?...
ap1drvr Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 Depending on what games you're trying to play I think the 64mb graphics card is more of a problem than the RAM. The RAM will help but I don't think most current games would even work on an integrated 64mb gracphics card.

DJB98LX Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 Believe it or not, but Civ4 is a pretty demanding game. Had to build a cousins comp to play, but I agree that laptops aren't for gaming. My laptop has a gig of ram, and a ATI graphics card that can be adjusted to 128mb of ram usage, and I've never even tried to play newer games on it, because I know it prob won't. Plays DVDs and multi apps. fine, but games need graphics cards. I just built up my PC for that.Builta PC! Try going on newegg.com. They got pretty good prices!
EH6TunerDaniel Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 yea i think that much ram isnt a problem, ur graphics card does seem hindering tho, i would reccomend buidling a desktop, ive built all mine and they are fine and run games(BF2 and UT2004), plus desktop is a lot cheaper

Of course their gaming laptop is over 3 grand. bah 60% of the cost an alienware is the logo. but they are fast... i build comps for peeps every now and then. your lappy will in no way be able to run anything other tahn mabye pong or solitaire lol While ram will let u be able to multitask more, your processor is very slow (1.7???).. you would need at least around 2.1 and NOT A PENTIUM! AMD works great for gaming. Also, your card i am assuming is an ati something-or-other. 64 meg wont cut it. 128meg MIN, 256 i would recommend. i know of course that this is virtually impossible to do with your lappy, but if you know someone (or i would even do it for you) you could have an awesoem desktop built for 300-500$ (about half what you could buy one with the same specs for), perfect for gaming and everythinng else.
xxscaxx Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 Just get a MAC. as much as i love mac, that is bad advice. Macs are built for designing and computer graphics, not for gaming. hell, mac doesnt have many games even available for it.
SolLesHonda Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 +1 .. Macs suck for games, IMO. Get HP for a desktop. For a laptop, get Toshiba or HP.
InfinitePrelude Posted March 4, 2006 Author Posted March 4, 2006 Its cool end of the month If i don't do something to the car i'll probably just build a p4 computer. The last comp i built was athlon. so i wanna try something else now. i would still have it but i gave it away cus i was doing some travelling around the world last year so i thought i'd get a laptop. which is ok for just about everything but gaming. i've mostly used my ps2 for that but there are some game you can't get for that.
EH6TunerDaniel Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 what is you bus speed set at? maybe speed that up too btw, thnx blackout, i like my little honda guy too.....
CleanGSR Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 That's not even close to true about laptops only being able to run solitare and pong. My laptop works great for some of the older games like quake 3, area 51, half-life...etc. It won't run a lot of the newer games very well, but does great on all of the games more than 3 years old.

Blackoutt Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 My sony vaio is a great lap top. I pay FF 11 all the time and couterstrike.
SickSol22 Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 Yea I guess that was a biased opinion I dont play pc games anyway. Arent thoes alien computers supposed to be like one of the best gaming computers out their?
Blackoutt Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 Alienware are are kool but you could build you one for cheap and one that will work better too.
CleanGSR Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 Alienware are pretty awesome, but like ^ said, if you know how to build computers you could build a better one for cheaper.
SolLesHonda Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 Yeah, definately. Alienware are sweet though ... I wish we carried them at Circuit City.
Blackoutt Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 Trust me bro you can build one better it is a waste. I can tell you the parts to make a better one.
VR17 Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 buy a PSP. you got game, music, video, wi-fi, wi-fi internet, wif fi gaming, wi fi tv, usb xfer, upgradable 4gb hd voids warrenty because its an internal illeagle modifcation, upgradable 4gb memory stick pro duo, upgradable 3600mAh battery(double life=12hours) inferad linkin system, UMDs, hacking programs to download games onto your hd or mem stick unstead of buying movies or games. my 2 cents.. lol
