4-2-1 vs 4-1 headers

Hi.

 

I want to buy a header but I need a bit of advice. Firstly what is the difference between 4-2-1 and 4-1 headers? And would I be really wasting my money buying a £100 one off ebay? Or should I fork out more and get something decent? I have a 1.5 SOHC stage III vtec. 114 bhp standard with a induction kit and full sports cat-back system.

 

Also I know this is a thick Q but how can I find out my exact engine code without just guessing? I know it is the stage 3 VTEC-D15B engine (bottom of http://asia.vtec.net/article/d15b/) but can I get more exact?

4-2-1 headers scavenge the exhaust pulses better, creating a little more bottom end torque. but they are a little more soggy at top end. 4-1 headers scavenge the exhaust best at high rpm's, so they are a little soggy at bottom end, but at higher rpm's, is when they work. dont buy anything off ebay. buy the big name headers.

Got that right had a 4-2-1 on my gsr motor in my civic it sucked top end v-tec sounded like crap changed to a 4-1 v-tec SLAMMED big differ between them both personally id take the 4-1 any-day

i have a 4-1 off of e-bay and its perfect, looks just like my buddies dc sports one same size and everything only differ is he paid 500 cnd and i paid 40 ;)

for your sohc engine id go with a 4-2-1 , just cause you dont have a monstrous redline like dohc engines. but gsr is right high revvin dohc vtec engines seem to love the 4-1 header. i also agree with the ebay purchase as long as its at least a brand name and not someone weldin them in thier basment. you wanna buy a header off ebay go with OBX racing. there half decent priced , they are a brand name , and ive dealt with a few of them and they work and hold up great imo.

yeah i agree B16 them DOHC VTEC engines love 4-1. makes em sound completely different as well. brings VTEC alive you could say.
