kilted13 Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 I have a 1991 dx that turns but wont start. replaced the cap, coil, rotor, and plugs in one shot. then the fuel pressure regulatorwith an old one I had lying around. then the distributor, still nothing. I get spark, but it seems slow 2 or 3 sparks on a 5 second crank. getting fuel all the way, and even if I wasn't, the 2 then 3 then 5 second shot of starting fluid should have done something. if I hold the throttle open all the way it coughs a little but won't catch. I just did a fuel pressure check. initial surge was about 38 psi. dropped when cranking to about 30, then surged back up on the key release to about 42 or 43. second crank dropped it to about 35. then Irealised I did it wrong and had diconnect the vaccuum line from the press. reg. but the second test netted the same results, almost perfectly, now i'm gonna try changing my injectors with some ones I have in the shop, but damn this is frustrating!!
kilted13 Posted February 19, 2006 Author Posted February 19, 2006 damn I forgot two points 1 the ecu gives me one blink (good according my haynes) and my fuel pressure specs should be between 40 and 50 psi also as per haynes
xalexjx@yahoo.com Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 u have the plug wires in the right order?
kilted13 Posted February 20, 2006 Author Posted February 20, 2006 yeah, plug wires are in proper order, me and a buddy are pretty sure it's fuel pressure, so we're about to do a pump change but it seems like i should get closer to a start with just a 10 to 20 drop in psi
meccosbay Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 my 93 civic was doing the same thing , all i did was replace the starter. Fires everytime now.
cranny Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 he said hes only gettin a few sparks on a 5 sec. crank over time? that dont seem right, should spark more than that. if hes gettin fuel which 30 to 38 psi on that car is normal. maybe its a spark issue like an ignitor? maybe bay is right and its simply not turnin the engine over fast enough to catch. but with starting fluid seems pretty strange. you are getting spark though so .....maybe wires are arching off something there bad idk. try gettin a windex or spray bottle with water in it and mist all your plug wires and rotor cap so there wet and crack engine over in the dark. see if you see arcs commin from anywhere they shouldnt be.
kilted13 Posted February 23, 2006 Author Posted February 23, 2006 Update First, thank you guys for the suggestions, To re iterate, the pressure drops 1-3 psi w/ each crank, but holds steady from the prime. (ie no leak) checked pump w/ a stetho, and it's good, checked resis. on both injectors, well within spec according to haynes. replaced main relay, $50 bucks I didn't have and a part I didn't need. starter and battery are brand new, new distributor made no dif, so I took that f*cker back. checked spark again, still strong but slow, gonna try that wet the wires trick tomorrow, and then break down and call the dealer. frustrated and pissed, and when I get the cash I'm getting an Acura or a damn beemer.
kilted13 Posted February 26, 2006 Author Posted February 26, 2006 It was the pump, now she runs!!! Sweet. thanks
